The afternoon promises sweet Caribbean vibes including fantastic live music, local Caribbean food and DJ sets, to ensure it’s a feast for the all senses. And add to that free entry for all the family.Orchestra this Saturday for their annual Blockorama Steel Band Extravaganza.

The event, now in its third year, showcases the talent and flair from local and other well established steel pan orchestras.

This year, Ebony Steelband (aka early pioneers of UK pan playing, European Champions and Intercontinental title holders) will make their debut, playing alongside favourites Croydon Steel Band and London Allstars.

The band, featuring young people aged 15-25 is led by Tottenham’s own Chris Storey, affectionately known as “Pan Daddy” – an amazing and talented composer who rose under Haringey’s scheme to introduce steel pan playing across schools in the borough since the 1980s.

With its fun and welcoming nature, pan music attracts a diverse mix of players and fans, so expect a blend of traditional soca and reggae riddims and contemporary pop and RnB. One thing’s for sure, there won’t be a still foot in the Rec.

A wide variety of refreshments will be on sale to raise funds to help develop and maintain local pan music talent, so turn up thirsty.

Pan Nation Steel Orchestra will also be competing for the first time at the UK’s annual pan competition Panorama (Under 21s) this August, where crowds gather to hear the best of the UK’s pan collectives in a battle to gain this prestigious title.
