The University of the West Indies will be hosting the UWI Classic Concert 2018 in honour of Ras Shorty I. This concert will be held on Sunday 11th March, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at Queens Hall. All proceeds from this concert will be earmarked for the UWI DCFA Theatre Hall Fund.
The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus (UWI STA) continues its efforts to support our true musical icons, culture and the arts, and to this end, UWI STA is honoured to be collaborating with the Blackman Family and friends in honour of their father who was distinguished musical icon.
Classic Concert 2018 will showcase members of the Blackman Family and friends who will be performing renditions of classics from Ras Shorty I’s body of work over his long and illustrious musical career. A prolific musician, composer and innovator, Shorty experimented with fusing calypso and the other Indian-inspired music, including chutney music for nearly a decade before unleashing "the soul of calypso".-.soca music.
