  • Pardon my ignorance but could someone please inform me of what a single pan band is and how many members etc?  Thanks

    • PLEASE  Pan Times  email  on 22nd January 2012, the entire list of RULES for Panorama 2012  is shown, in it is the answerto your question.       Each player plays a single Pan, and the band must not have more than 45 Players

      • Thank you for your reply.  I found the rules right after I wrote the question.

  • Well, here we go again, 1200 pan players now seeking to get into the Conventional Bands to get to play to be in the finals because it is the desire of panmen to be in the finals.I SEE AN INCREASE OF THE SINGLE  PAN BANDS, I shudder to think because of a subsidy that a band is being formed. Pan Trinbago should devise a plan and have shows throughout the country utilising the services of the bands that do not qualify for the FINALS, thus keeping those panmen occupied.

This is one of the downside of the Steel Band Panorama Competition,After the prelims, THAT IS IT for a large number of pan players. Do any of the readers have a positive suggestion to alleviate the current or annual  situation of those Pan Sides?

    • I have just read the list of single pan bands which competed in the prelims and I could not believe some of their tune of choice selections.

There were quite a few oldies chosen. Not that I’ve got anything against the old calypsoes but it made me think.

Perhaps some bands may have stood a better chance if they forgot about Christmas and started practising earlier.

The first releases started appearing in mid-September and during that time I’m sure they could have perfected their performances.

So the moral of the story is if you don’t want to fall at the first hurdle, start early. Forget Christmas!

Only joking!  But it may be worth exploring.
