Can't Get No Respect!! -- Small Bands

It is a noticeable fact that the Small Conventional Steel Orchestras have received some shabby treatment during the panorama season over the past years.

Some of the small band performances have been made available by Pan Trinbago.

When Steel Talks will highlight a number of these performances as selected by out WST team.

Here is the first pick by the WST team...

  • Hoping a DVD comes out of this finals. Channel 4, despite carrying it live, cut off at midnight, which was right before we (Supernovas) performed. Thanks for highlighting this WST

    • Very thoughtful arrangement and performance... Good work.

  • All i can say is MARKETING AND PR OUTSIDE OF CARNIVAL

  • With so much steel band activity concentrated in a relative short period of time, and with all the other Carnival related activity going on, something's got to give, and the small and single pan bands pay the price.

Even the medium bands are not sufficiently represented in the fans views, since most of the focus is placed on the big bands.

Listening to bands in the small and single pan categories, I find they all have full band sounds and credit must go to their arrangers for arranging to the bands physical specifications IE size.

This is yet another example of how the steel band is not fully exploited as a cultural resource, when  significant  segments of the steel band movement are virtually ignored by the public and the parent organization during the Carnival, which should be prime time for all steel bands..
