Electric Vehicles are the future.

Go down to Trinidad and get your weights and dimensions and come back up and contact the company and define your mission to them.

  • Claude, the problem is, the battery life is only 4 hours, and they take at least 8 hours to recharge..... which means, that if you get through jouvert, the rest of your carnival done !  ( We have been testing an electric prototype forklift at work for the last 4 months now, they're great while the charge last, but then you may as well shut down the plant while they recharge )

    • Quite true, Jerry. But billions of dollars are being poured into research looking for that long-life battery breakthrough. It is just a matter of time. By the time this economic downturn ends and money starts flowing again in Trinidad the better battery might be on the market. Who knows?

Meanwhile Tesla is going ALL IN.

  • The designing of the rack is relatively easy. I had one designed by an engineer from Northwest Airlines, with input from Boogsie, in the early 1990s. Lightweight, using airplane material, collapsible, self-propelled, and complete with lighting. The cost effectiveness is the problem.

    • Ajamu, that's the biggest problem with the steelband, they have NO income so there is  no innovation. If there is a rack then we could come up with a funding drive to to buy at least 40-50 so for now most large bands could have them, everything  about the steelband has to be charity.

      • Ajamu What's the cost of this rack so we could figure out what kind of money that's needed? Raising the finances for such a project should start with the government holding back $100 from every pan player panorama cheque, a percentage from all prize monies and appearance fee,a percentage of panorama profits and all grants to Pan Trinbago, sponsors would put something in the pot, and ah appeal could be made to all companies.

I am in no way telling anyone what to do here, I am giving a suggestion, anyone can do the same.

  • That's great!

  • Claude, the first step in that direction is to design a rack for 25 players, 4 such racks give you the panorama side. All bands must be in agreement as to what type of pans should be on this rack. We have two universities in the country this would be a good project for young design engineering students, they could get someone to sponsor a prize to generate interest. There is a solution for every problem the steelband faces but there has to be the will to solve them.
