THE EDITOR: Following the results, I congratulate all pannists and arrangers for their energy, talent and discipline in producing and executing the wonderful music that leaves us enthralled every Carnival season. We all know that many hours of sacrifice and practice go into the finished masterpieces.
I offer congratulations particularly to CAL Skiffle Steel Orchestra, not only for its wonderful second place success at the Panorama finals but for the dedication of all involved over the years.
Skiffle, founded in 1976 and managed by Junia Regrello, is a relatively young band in the steelband world. Pan enthusiasts readily remember the older bands from San Fernando – Fonclaire, Guinness Cavaliers, Hatters and Antillean All Stars.
Regrello, now the mayor of San Fernando, is affectionately known as “Skipper” or just “Junia” to his young charges. He has shown that one can dream the dream but that hard work brings success.
He has invested in the young people of San Fernando and environs.
My son, Kern and many others have been drawn to the band because of Regrello’s excellent management skills.
The young arrangers, Kendall Williams, Odie Gonzales Franklin and Mark Brooks, must be congratulated for their excellent work with Skiffle. Under these talented arrangers Skiffle has enjoyed its most successful year in the national Panorama.

this is so true about the skipper, he is an excellent leader, and is because of him Skiffle has come so far. I know this because I was a founding member when we were known as Skiffle Bunch. We were really a bunch of us that grew up in the neighborhood, worked together and played together.
the only thing that I don't like about the skipper is that he took out the bunch from Skiffle, making those who played with the band before feels like he kicked out the bunch of us who started this with him.
