With the world watching, legendary steelband arranger and composer Len “Boogsie” Sharpe endorsed Beverley Ramsey-Moore for president of Pan Trinbago in the organization's upcoming election - over Keron Valentine, the recent and former manager of Sharpe's own steel orchestra, Phase II Pan Groove.

“Boogsie” makes his points before his musical tribute to Ken "Professor" Philmore at SAPA

Citing a conversation between himself and Ken "Professor" Philmore which revealed the idea to apparently be the brainchild of Philmore - “Boogsie's” very passionate urging was definitively repeated, and done in the most public of settings - the online broadcast of the celebration of the life of the late iconic panman Ken "Professor" Philmore. Sharpe paid tribute in word and music at the event which was held October 5, 2018 at SAPA (South Academy for the Performing Arts) in the southland of Trinidad.

============================

Below in essence is the conversation “Boogsie” said he had with “Professor” who called had him recently - and as told by “Boogsie” at SAPA.

============================

Philmore: “Boogsie,” we got to get up and do something.”

Boogsie: “What is that?”

Philmore: “The situation in the Pan, what going on with the Pan…With all the different committees – people taking in charge of pan and they ain’t doing nothing – nothing at all. We come like the laughing stock of the world. And this is our gift to the world. The greatest invention of the 20th century, the steel drum….Boy, listen, we have to go and fight.”

Boogsie:  “Fight for – how much more fight you want me to go and do – I is ah old man. They do me all kind of ting, [while] talking for the betterment of pan.”

Philmore:  “No. We have to go. Ah coming and check you after the ‘Big 5’ concert [September 22 in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad] and we going and fight.

Boogsie:  “Fight for who?”

Philmore: “You know we have a woman President [Her Excellency Paula-Mae Weeks].…We’re going and tell all the pan men….vote for Beverly Ramsey-Moore – a woman….”

Boogsie:  “Pan men from all the bands all over – vote for Beverley, Beverley Ramsey-Moore, and Carlon [Harewood] – and her team. - Another thing, one more thing.  Allyuh hear me, eh, Pan men?  That’s from me and “Professor.”  You will get ‘transparency’ and everything. Change the whole thing. We’ve got to change the name ‘Pan Trinbago’ – that name, gosh, very shameful, you know. So Beverley and your Team.  All Pan men, pass the word around. We voting for Beverley Ramsey-Moore.”

And before he performed Philmore’s iconic composition ‘Pan By Storm,’ “Boogsie” again reminded everyone one last time:

“But don’t forget – Pan men, and Pan women -  Woman Is Boss! Woman Is Boss!, So allyuh vote for Beverley Ramsey-Moore – Team.  Forget the rest of Teams. [Richard] Forteau and dem want to come back again – for what?  All dem years dem fellas and dem there, they did nothing….We’re [Trinidad & Tobago Pan] the laughing stock of the world. Let’s do better for the little children to come.”

========================================================

Beverley Ramsey-Moore heads ‘Team Re-Build’ and she is one of seven currently running for the position of president, replacing current Pan Trinbago president Keith Diaz.  There is at least one more group, Team New Times (TNT), and additionally a few 'independents' rounding out the candidates for president, and additional positions within the organization.

  • This is what we doing now? Pushing political agendas at PEOPLE'S FUNERALS?!?!?!?!?!? What a distasteful thing to do. Mr. Sharpe as a grown man should have known better and the people he supports should be laden with shame. Today was supposed to be a day to respect and reminisce on memories of a great and talented man who inspired many great musicians. BUT ALLYUH DONT KNOW HOW TO ACT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I was Miss. Moore I would be mortified! To have my campaign presented in such a distasteful manner would humiliate me to no end. Who am I though, to say that she wasn't the one to instigate all this in the first place? I would not be surprised if she was.

    Something to notice however, was that other candidates such as Darren Sheppard, who were running for the same post as Miss Moore conducted themselves with utmost respect and DIGNITY! Mr. Sheppard, in the past week, was interviewed numerous times about the professor. NOT ONCE did he use these interviews as a platform to push his political agenda.
