Local music artistes will now have a broader platform to showcase their creativity with the launch of Live Music District (LMD) on Thursday.

Implemented by CreativeTT through state agency MusicTT, which has the remit for the creative industries in Trinidad and Tobago, the LMD will pave a new platform for performing artistes to generate income and hone their craft, while bringing national awareness and increased exposure to the many talented local artists through performances at local venues in the pilot district of Port of Spain.

The project will concretize the business aspects of the music and entertainment sectors, empowering independent artists and strengthening entrepreneurship in the creative sector.

Speaking at the launch, Trade and Industry Minister Paula Gopee-Scoon, said: “This District will serve as a cultural and entertainment hub, offering access to performance spaces, throughout the year, for diverse and talented local musicians from all genres and highlighting the richness in diversity.”

She stated that the establishment of this Live Music District will also have a positive effect on the entire local music ecosystem with an efficient and fully functioning industry leading to greater foreign and local investment into music and an increased socio- economic contribution.

With the expectation that LMD will generate revenue and employment from economic activity within Port of Spain, Gopee-Scoon said she anticipates that more young persons will consider careers in the music industry through this ground breaking initiative.

Port of Spain Mayor Joel Martinez welcomed LMD to the city of Port-of-Spain indicating that it is an excellent initiative to have live music in the City of Port of Spain throughout the year.

“We are a music country and this is an opportunity to show the world what we have with our local talent”, Martinez said.

In his budget speech last year, Imbert said Government was facilitating the development of the creative industry in particular music, film and fashion. He said the Government planned to implement an artiste portfolio development programme, “which will support artistes who are on the verge of becoming export ready by leveraging their creative talents on the worldwide market.

Look at that!!! I don't have to ask "Where is the MUSIC any more" since our LOCAL ARTISTES will be showcasing their immense talent WORLDWIDE.

Ah done turn on meh TV already to start watching!!!

Sounding like a good initiative on paper. Just have to wait and see if it is practical.
