Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. -  ....Why are we having such a good time in celebration of an anniversary of Independence immediately preceding a crisis meeting between the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition on the subject of violent crime? And should we be?

....Taking the Pan on the Avenue parade and the Independence Day parade together there was unbridled and trouble free joy everywhere, persons hitherto un-introduced breaking into conversations stimulated by the spontaneous desire to comment to each other on the music and other sights and sounds.

Then some conversations turn to more serious subjects, particularly violent crime such as I had briefly with two gentlemen whose chairs were on the pavement next to mine and who had recently been held up in a group of five gathered at the home of mutual friends.

....The mingling at the Pan on the Avenue event happily included representatives of younger generations, no doubt comfortable among the pan because of their familiarity with the bars and clubs on the Avenue.

A time on de avenue and panorama at carnival is not the answer to crime in T&T. We can't pin our hopes on pan, well, not unless people get paid for Feb 2016, then we'll see a reduction in crime, trust me. It's 1.45 am, taking an hour's sleep, perchance to dream, then Nostrand @ Empire looking for a dustbin cover. Ah Gorn.

Mr. Patrick Ramdoo: If the Government followed the BIRDSONG MODEL and built 200 fully equipped PAN YARDS (and make sure they mix some recording equipment in) across the country (with a couple in Tobago): Do you think it will reduce CRIME in T&T?

NO! But it may reduce crime on the avenue and in the Savannah panorama time. Hope that answers your question as long winded as it is.

Seems like "pan" solves the problems of T&T. If that's the answer then let's start respecting pan and pan people.

Pan does rise above. Born out of strife and a longing for perfect harmony- it does rise above conflict to become a healing force. Pan on the Avenue demonstrated that. Give thanks.
