I know that the posters on this forum consider THE NEW MINISTER OF CULTURE the KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOR who will ride into town and TAKE PAN AND CALYPSO AND SOCA AND MAS AND FILM AND FASHION to GLOBAL HEIGHTS and bring in more BILLIONS THAN OIL.

But to Ronnie McIntosh and NEWSDAY she seems to be MISSING IN ACTION.

Now me and Keith Diaz already know that we have THIS MINISTER figured out. And although our organization is FIVE MILLION DOLLARS IN THE RED, we are quite sure that we could get this NEW MINISTER to provide adequate NEW FUNDING without any unnecessary and frivolous AUDITS.

We at PAN TRINBAGO  are aiming at SELF-SUFFICIENCY and as long as ROWLEY and the NEW MINISTER are willing to provide us with SEED MONEY (ABOUT FIFTY MILLION) to fund our projects, we will have PAN bringing in BILLIONS -- more money than oil!!!

  •  Panorama 2016 produced high quality of steel band performances; consensus is, this was one of the BEST in recent years.  Have to give the Honorable Nyan Gadsby-Dolly high praise for her Leadership, she challenged Pan Trinbago to work with less funding and LOOK what they produced.

A homeless band come and win de rama. They had LESS to work with and achieved MORE. Correct me if I’m wrong?

  • What  an unfounded  conclusion to draw that  the Culture Minister is missing in action. Also, if Pan Trinbago is  so confident  of the returns from a $50 million seed money loan, why don't  they approach corporate Trinidad and Tobago?. If the  State were to provide that kind of seed money, I say dissolve Pan Trinbago and have a State board called the Steelband Authority with the Minister of Culture as the line minister. After all pan is our national instrument.

  • Tanty Joan's gone, but she has my BACK, there's a new SHERIFF in Town. Time to CRACK Wip...

    • There's NOTHING NEW here...from  WST interview with Patrick Arnold in 2008

The Unending Travail of Trinidad & Tobago’s National Instrument - the Steelpan

      Arnold:

“We have - we have three companies that we have set up now to deal with it, things like that [funding of steelband projects/events outside of carnival time].  They would be managed by professional people, and I am sure in the future, we won’t have to be really be in this type of a situation.  That is why we moved really - we got - a company to come in and look at Pan Trinbago, and they have come up with the way that we should move, move forward. We already have Panvesco - which is our investment company.  And we are not going to sit around no more and wait on them [the government].”

Arnold also expanded on the company charged with advising Pan Trinbago on becoming a self-sufficient and perhaps even lucrative business entity.  That task now lies in the hands of an individual who has his set up his own company, but hails from the same local firm that functions as the governing body’s auditor.  But whatever good financial windfalls may result from the three companies, Pan Trinbago sees those as resources for projects/events outside of the carnival season.  With panorama being within the carnival framework, Arnold believes it is still the responsibility of the government to fulfill this financial role.
