Pan official quits, slams ‘lavish spending’

Trinidad Express

“From interim to elected I requested on more than one occasion some transparency with the financial accounts of the organisation from the treasury, specifically, all accounts and balances and updates if possible for all monthly statutory meetings. My request was approved by the president verbally, witnessed by other executive members but were never met. I raised concerns with the manner in which funds were being used, callously, I may add, as in my understanding Pan Trinbago Inc is, has always been and still is a non-profit organisation and should have always been operated and should be operating as such. In my opinion the lavish financial spending and financial inconsistencies have far exceeded any acceptable level.

When I raised these issues I was shot down,” Rosemin wrote.
She said that pan players across the country were “absolutely disenchanted”.
“They are protesting. Some are protesting rather exuberantly, some silently. I have been protesting silently,” stated Rosemin.

“Members of the steelpan fraternity have offered themselves throughout the years to serve Pan Trinbago through the central executive, to stand up, to contribute, and to correct wrong-doings and effect positive change; it was never meant to be self-seeking,” said Rosemin. “This non-profit organisation was set up to serve pan people. At any point in time, breaking even would have been admirable!”

  • Have you realised that this executive do not attract "Honesty, and Integrity".

  • panmen should get $1000, and Crachshots should get $2000,     they ear that to have that ability   pay the panmen for their wort the same way they pay the arramgers for their worth

  • There is NO democracy in any band in T&T. In my band, we have no fiscal impropriety, but we have no say, little or no meetings, frequent flaunting of Constitution rules and regs. It's okay to knock PanTrinbago because they screwed up big time, but the same behavior exists in most or maybe all steelbands. The mirror must be broken, because we cant see clearly the crap that is meted out to players by their own organizations.

The problem is not PanTrinbago. They got  jackasses to ride and they rode. What's wrong with that?

Pan men cashed their checks today and they are back in the pan yards tonite to play for $500. A bottle of Stout, Beer and Johnny blue, black, double black is all it takes. Keep 'em drunk and they'll do your bidding, even cuss PanTrinbago, warranted though it may be, but WE, the pan men allow the shit to go on, EVEN IN OUR OWN PAN YARDS.

DEMOCRACY??????CAN'T EVEN SPELL THE DAMN WORD.

    • How much do you pay to be a member of the band? Not wanting to know your business but you have mentioned that there is no democracy in your band so it's important to put into perspective.

Most associations or organizations have a membership fee to ensure that the organization can take care of itself and its programs.

The members who pay dues expect to get something for their money, mostly a way to decide what the money is used for and ensuring that it is used to the best efforts of the band, business or company.

If you pay dues to your band and do not get the expected transparency or an explanation about where the money going or who is doing what, then you have a problem.

If you do not pay dues, then crapaud smoke your pipe. You have no leverage. Best to join another band.

Most pan players join and play in their bands for the love of the band, arranger or pan itself. They obviously don do it for the money.

If they get a little beer, stout, Johnny blue or black then so much the better. BTW which band serving Black?

      • Keith Simpson and Tripolians better watch out for you , Rather harsh and irrational statements. How long have you been involved in the Pan Movemernt and how many bands have you been around to make such statements. I can say that the bands that have a strong and professional administration keep the steelband fraternity alive and powerful. So please ,do not be emotional, when making statements.

        • Trevor: Patrick just joking man and he did not call any steelband name. But hear, nah. Tell us what going on with the PAN TING nah. Ah hear DIAZ run out the hospital and run down by the office and nearly kill  Forteau (grabbing him by the throat) and tell him doh sign no deal to resign with Dane and dem fellahs.

Leh we stay in office and FIX DIS TING weself!!

Give us the story nah, man.

          • I apologise for any inconvenience, but one must remember that what one put in writing cannot be withdrawn, it is like a bullet out of a gun. However, i am not one to speak about topics without first having proper investigative first hand information. too much bachanal, but the truth always reveals itself.

      • Blue and black? Being facetious. We have a Constitution. Wayne, there is a Pres., Sec'y/treas, ttee, Capn, Vice Capn. to simulate a 'real' business? There is No fiscal impropriety. It's a one man show. That's not a democracy. Ill leave it there.
      • The problem facing the steelband is after carnival everybody gone until the next year, this prevent them from any meaningful organizing.

        • That is because many of the bands are controlled by "Hustlers" that is why they supported the"eat ah food" attitude of Keith Diaz and his operatives. Until Pan Players attend meetings and listen to the comments of the representatives and allow them to spewak freely, like how it was in the old days, then things will improve.Do you know that in the Standing Orders of PT, A delegate/representative CANNOT speak more than once on a topic. So if you ask a question and is not presented with a proper explanation, you are told to SIT. That is not and cannot be a democratic organisation.
