This morning at 615 am I got a call from my brother in trinidad.that my friend henry cyrus was killed in the pan yard his wife and a couple of people was also hurt this is sad to see what is happening in.trinidad RIP my good friend HENRY CYRUS

I just saw your article on the killing of Uni-Stars' Henry Vincent-Cyrus, and would like to conduct an interview with you to give an update on this tragedy. I'm usually available after 8 pm Trini time.
Seeing that this is the weekend, I hope I won't be imposing on you, but I would like to discuss this shooting for about 10 minutes or so, either tonight or tomorrow (Sunday) night.

ALREADY burdened by the runaway crime situation, police and soldiers were last night given added responsibility to protect pan players throughout the country in the wake of the latest gun attack in Laventille.
Hours after the Thursday night shooting, which claimed the life of a founding members of Uni-Stars, Henry Vincent-Cyrus, and left three others wounded, president of Pan Trinbago, Keith Diaz, requested a meeting with National Security Minister Brigadier John Sandy, Police Commissioner Dwayne Gibbs and other security officials, seeking protection for pan players.
Speaking after the meeting, Diaz said he was given the assurance that "from tonight" police and soldiers will begin patrolling the areas around panyards.
Diaz said Vincent-Cyrus was the third pan player to be killed for the Carnival season and noted that members of another pan orchestra had reported threats.
"Cyrus was a founding member of the band," said Diaz. "A big man like that could be in any part of this gang thing?" he asked.
"In fact he was helping young people and used to train kids in pan to keep them off the streets," he added.
"He was another one of those people who would try to encourage the youths to come and play pan," said Diaz.
Diaz said he requested the meeting because he knew that Sandy had a keen interest in the pan culture and, "all we want is special security for the bands because some of the (Uni-Stars) members came to my office this morning (yesterday morning) crying for protection".
The drive-by shooting, which occurred shortly before 1 a.m. at the corner of Old St Joseph Road and Mc Allister Street, was random, police said.
Vincent-Cyrus, 58, was killed while pan side composer Avis Bruce, 36, Yvonne Batson, 68, and Shormel Abraham, 13, were also struck. The injured were taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital where they were warded in stable conditions last night.
Vincent-Cyrus was hit three times to his back as he sat on a wall.
Minister of Arts and Multiculturalism Winston "Gypsy" Peters visited Abraham yesterday at the hospital.
Investigators said that they had "solid" lead that the shooters were members of a Beetham Gardens gang who were targeting a teenager from Picket Village, Laventille, who was practising with the pan side.
Officers from the Homicide Bureau and the Besson Street CID are investigating.

Yes brother Hameed the sacred ground of the Pan Yard is now being violated . It is indeed an unfortunate situation that lives are lost and innocent people are injured in this madness of criminal acivities here in T&T. There are so many youths in the Pan Yards that some type of Quick solution needs to be put in place......Last year a few bands were robbed when they were about to pay out to their members.....Pan is in danger

This is very very sad, because its in the Pan Yard many found Peace, Love and Happiness, we never hurt our brothers and sister in the Pan Yard, its a fight free, gun-free zone, we beat Pan, we beat Iron, the Bomb is a secret tune to make the people happy not to kill them. Kitchener's said to "Bring back the bull".
I am a pan player, and I can't fathom, why anyone would want to shoot up a panyard. Its an absolutely obscene act. We all must condemn these vagabonds who have no care for others and definitely no fear for God. But God doh sleep, they will get theirs evenyually. Condolances to the family of Henry Cyrus, and I wish a sppedy recovery to Avis Bruce and the others wounded in this attack.
I extend my condolences to the family and friends of Henry Cyrus and also to the members of the Unisters Steelband. May he RIP. May God Bless Trinidad and Tobago.
My condolences to the Cyrus family, this to much to handle when panyards are being attacked.Henry aka SLY was also a member of SOLO Harmonites and in New York he played with Dem Stars stage side two yaers ago when little man brought him to us, a loving person and great tenor panist We here at The National Alliance of Steelbands and Dem Stars pray that god will look on all of us and answer our prays to bring peace to this land and give our children something to live for as we had growing up in the 60s Rest in Peace my brother
