Symphonic Steel Drum Band celebrates its legacy

Founder of the group and former director Ron Miller will present a history of the group at 6 p.m. before the band performs

The Dundee Area Historical Society presents an evening of unique local history and music with a program about and a reunion of members of the Dundee Central School’s famed Symphonic Steel Drum Band.

Former director of the group, Ron Miller will give a talk, “The History of the Symphonic Steel Drum Band.” at 6 p.m. June 28 at the Seneca Street Park in Dundee. He will be joined by the current directors of the band, Randy and Lynette Knapp along with current band members. The public is invited to bring a lawn chair and enjoy the music with a little history woven in. Hotdogs, chips, drinks and other refreshments will be for sale.

The Symphonic Steel Drum Band was formed in the late 1970s by Miller, who taught music at Dundee Central School.
