Terry Noel of the Melodians has been awarded an MBE

Congratulations go to Terry Noel, who has been awarded an MBE in the Queen's New Year Honours 2015 in recognition of his service to Music. He formed the Melodians Steel Orchestra UK in October 1987 as a 'Not for Profit' organisation and has been the leader ever since. The Melodians became a registered charity in 1994. Terry has the vision to see the potential of a steel orchestra and he takes the initiative to constantly seek out new challenges.

Over the past 3 years alone the Melodians have played at the Paralympics Torch Relay, the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in the grounds of Windsor Castle, they took part in the ‘Adopt a Composer Scheme’ organised by Making Music, recorded the background music to Jeremy Deller's 'English Magic' film at Abbey Road studios, played at the opening of the 55th Venice International Art Biennale, travelled to Zambia to play at the British High Commissioner's Home in Lusaka and the International Arts Festival in Livingstone, played at the opening of the English Magic Exhibitions in the UK as well as many other events.

More recently, the Melodians recorded a new CD at BBC Maida Vale Studios. The CD is called 'Melodians Magic' and contains the English Magic recording as well as audience favourites from their own repertoire. This CD was released in December.

  • Congratulation to Terry Noel & the Melodians  keep up the good work.

  • Many of our pannists have been awarded in the country of their adoption, moreso than in the country of their birth. More MBEs than Humming Bird medals- as they are called here (cf hummingbird). Go figure

  • Congratulations Terry!
