Because this is Trinidad and Tobago...

"Here every creed and race
find an equal place,
And may God bless our nation.”

So we, all of us, side by side, have a mas of attainment to play, a work of art to entertain and to communicate to the universe.

The Eyes of God

All men are equal
in the eyes of God.
Would that
All Gods were equal
in the eyes of Man.

It is true Mas revisited and revived - the sailor, the pan and the flag woman.  But, for Minshall, it carries an even stronger message to the nation, as he fears

The Carnival is relentlessly cavorting down the road to the mindless beat of debauchery and depravity.  Once upon a time there was spirit and soul and meaning in the mas.  People would play mas as much for attainment as for entertainment.  We need to get that spirit back.  We need to express and show the spirit of the thing, not just the flesh.  We need to feed the soul”.

Truth be told you said it...

Where in Heaven's name can you get some of the sweetest pan music (ah know right now yuh hearing the steady ringing of the iron), some of the sweetest tuned pan in the world, some of the most creatively arranged pan music, be in the heart and centre of the bacchanal, for two whole fantastic days, under a blistering tropical sun, sipping and drinking any damn alcoholic beverage your parched palette desires, amidst bevies of beautiful women of all shapes and forms, ....... FOR THAT PRICE???? No where else in Trinidad. And no where else in the world!!

Your eloquence as always captivating and intoxicating like dem midnight robbers, the times when a Sailor could thief ah wine for FREE.

NOW dey say I have tuh ask permission, wha ah go tell she when she come an wine up on meh???

Oh geezan ages!! Like you wanna geh me in some trouble now, boie.
Anyway, rhetorical though your question may be, ODW, my suggestion of an acceptable response (when she dropping a lil wine on yuh) is simple — check it.
"Don't" and "Stop" are two words all of mankind (and womankind!) doh like to hear .... except when they are said together. :-)

"Dah is my story, officer, and ah sticking wid it."

          Wishing you a wine-filled 2018 carnival (& scotch-filled too) replete with permission(s).  :-)   :-)  :-)

  • Minshall wants to BRING BACK THE MAS from HIS TIME. The WHEN STEEL TALKS FORUMITES want to BRING BACK THE PAN ON THE ROAD FOR CARNIVAL from THEIR TIME.

Yuh know, the world KEEPS REVOLVING and societies KEEP EVOLVING ... MINSHALL TIME PASS and PAN ON THE ROAD FOR CARNIVAL TIME PASS.

EMBRACE THE PRESENT and LOOK AHEAD TO THE FUTURE -- UNTIL YOU DIE!!!

    • Sometimes, you have to go back to the cross-roads where you can find yourself, in the NOW that was den.

“The Carnival is relentlessly cavorting down the road to the mindless beat of debauchery and depravity. Once upon a time there was spirit and soul and meaning in the mas. People would play mas as much for attainment as for entertainment. We need to get that spirit back. We need to express and show the spirit of the thing, not just the flesh. Lord Kitchener - No Wuk For Carnival

      From Dr. deLight

In terms of embracing the ‘now’, kindly permit me to echo a thought of ET which I think seems to mirror/substantiate your perspective, if only an iota.

"The present moment is the most precious thing there is.  People don’t realize that now is all there ever is; there is no past or future except as memory or anticipation in your mind.  The past gives you an identity and the future holds the promise of salvation, of fulfillment in whatever form. Both are illusions.
Time isn’t precious at all, because it is an illusion. What you perceive as precious is not time but the one point that is out of time: the Now. That is precious indeed. The more you are focused on time—past and future—the more you miss the Now, the most precious thing there is.

Don’t let a mad world tell you that success is anything other than a successful present moment.  Most humans are never fully present in the now, because unconsciously they believe that the next moment must be more important than this one. But then you miss your whole life, which is never not now.

As soon as you honor the present moment, all unhappiness and struggle dissolve, and life begins to flow with joy and ease. When you act out the present-moment awareness, whatever you do becomes imbued with a sense of quality, care, and love – even the most simple action."

  • After all these years Minshall is still trying to make meaningfull mas, mas as theatre, Trinidad broadway. Will Trinidadians ever get it?.

  • Lord: Ah have to wake up this morning to all this "every creed and race find an equal place" propaganda when the PM is BLACK and the CJ is BLACK and now the PRESIDENT go be BLACK ... when dem other creed and race go find ah equal place.

  • Best of luck with your presentation Exodus. [get that spirit back, feed the soul] I love that.
