So many PAN LOVERS both LOCAL and FOREIGN are just dying inside over the STAGNANCY. The corruption is one problem but the lack of ADMINSTRATIVE SKILLS and the lack of GLOBAL CONSCIOUSNESS dooms the organization to years of floundering and incompetence.

The CIP is a classic example. Any half-brained organization in their position in today's world would have set up a WEBSITE to deliver their message and undermine KEITH DIAZ. And they could have used the site in so many different ways. But unless the PNM is pumping money into PAN PROJECTS, nothing could get off the ground and even then HALF THE FUNDS are stolen.

There is so much goodwill (audience and money and opportunity) around the world directed to STEELBAND MUSIC and all the PAN FRATERNITY in Trinidad could see is the PNM FUNDING. I know better. I know that they cannot help themselves because of the decades of conditioning. But just like they JUMPED UP and formed TASPO when they heard that HELLS GATE FROM ANTIGUA was going to the FESTIVAL OF  BRITIAN to REPRESENT PAN -- they should WAKE UP again and see how OUTSIDERS are taking control of the global demand for PAN and start addressing that issue.

Now I should be the LAST PERSON raising these issues because I know that they lack "THE PAKAGE" to promote the product like a Jonathan or Andy or Victor or TOM MILLER. But still it is time for them to put the arrogance on hold and ASK FOR HELP. There are hundreds of EXPAT who have lived the PAN LIFE in FOREIGN and who are willing to educate them in the ways of the OUTSIDE WORLD.

Over 800 institutions of learning across America pumping out thousands and thousands of music literate PAN PLAYERS (with skills in other areas of music beyond JUST THE PAN -- not to mention social and diplomatic skills) over the past and coming decades -- how many more Jonathans and Andys are they going to flood the global market with while we focus on PANORAMA.

They did not even have the vision to put MIA in the PANORAMA FINALS because they are so blind to the GLOBAL PICTURE. We are in a race where the PAN is concerned and the LOCALS don't even have a clue that they are getting ready to be LAPPED.

KEITH DIAZ got a JOB and every member of the CIP sees PAN only as taking the JOB and the PAYCHECK away from KEITH DIAZ. The PAN GAME has gone GLOBAL and gotten MUCH BIGGER than that!!!

  • Cecil so where would you suggest this Bomb Competition be held.
  • Again I want to thank all those who took time to ask questions of/about CIP.

CIP is a work in progress, mistakes would be made,we would try to limit them and correct those made as soon as we can.

CIP does not have, and hopefully would never have all the answers to everything Pan....because the thinking would be,the work in Pan is done, and complacency sets in.

Bands and leaders have to much more proactive in their organization, make their voices heard at PT meetings.....seek their bands and the total membership interest by ensuring their Executive/management is efficient and accountable.Recognize that their is strength in numbers.

    Thanks Bugs,Cecil,Claude,Morning Glory,merrytones,odw and others.

Please remember that CIP ask the assitance of ALL who are interested in Pan.

    In Pan

    Ossie.

    • oswald, I have a one tract mind and my concern is mainly in making steelbands strong once more in the land of it's birth, It is my opinion that all energies should go to taking care of business at home first before looking at outside.

I emphasize on pan on the road because it require Steelbands to work on their own, bringing a band is a year round task that involves player, management and supporter, it is a confidence builder, something that's lacking because of years of dependence on panorama. Carnival is a ready made market tap into it like everybody else.

Again I caution you, acknowledge their are two different areas here, Local and Foreign, do something that all the Local bands can participate in.

It is important to the survival of the steelband that they learn how to capitalize on carnival.

      • Cecil,I am tired of repeating myself....but I would try again.

Pan on the road requires the input of many others besides Steelbands.

The authorities have to do much better than they are doing now to encourage the majority of bands to wheel around on Carnival days. For instance, the road surfaces have to designed and maintained for easy flow. The decibel levels of a music truck can drown out ten steelbands at the crack of a volume control.

I am NOT in any position to do anything, except with my band.

I joined with CIP because I believe that strength in numbers, can assist ALL steelbands, mine included.

I also joined CIP because people were talking about generating ideas to help develop the industry, something which those with the mandate, wasn't doing.

Please remember that CIP people are Pantrinbago people, and have been asking our organization to find a way to make it work.

No Cecil it would not be wise or fruitful to devote all energies to the TT scene only.

Cecil pan on the road has become a very tedious and sometimes dangerous endeavor... but I too reminisce of those glorious days.

I agree Pan has to be part of the carnival business scene.

        • oswald I am also tired of repeating myself, when the Steelbands  become enthusiastic about coming on the road, they could start making demands from the authorities. you sit and wait for panorama you remain stagnant and create an environment for executives of the movement to exploit pan people.

If not the road, WHAT THEN?

I believe that people in the Mecca convince themselves that "dem day done" that's why they are not interested in any meaningful discussion about the topic. All Stars will always stand-out to the nay-sayers. MAN WHO SAY IT CANNOT BE DONE, WATCH MAN DOING IT.

          • Cecil I am extending an invitation to you for Carnival 2018 to assist in managing a band on the road on carnival days.I am not saying it cannot be done, what I am saying is my band have to be extremely careful with people's children out there...the cost factors have to be considered, together with the road conditions, and remunerations......Cecil saying some things sometimes doesn't convey a true sense of the reality.
I wish you would come and lend a hand,to make your dream come true.
            • oswald, I am not talking about carnival days,  8-9 hours on the road Monday is what I suggested,  offer $1.5 mill first prize for a Bomb tune yuh see bands coming outta the woodwork. You  duplicate pan on the road every opportunity you get but make excuses for carnival when there is the most people in the land. You deprive young people of the true spirit of the steelband yet you say that they are not interested.

For all those that feel 5 people with electronics is the future, it's more than turning up the volume.

I stay away from carnival because I cannot accept steelband in it's present form. It makes the jumbie in meh sad and mad.

            • We should be thankful and grateful for having been chosen as a country to give the world this beautiful sounding instrument. It is true that it is almost impossible to get a steel band back into the roads on Carnival days. It's time has gone in that format of acoustic pans even on a truck, what to speak of on wheels of the 60s. It could have been done then because there were no digital sound equipment, no big expensive trucks and trailers costing millions by its owners. The electronic sound of pan is here now but it will cost lots of money to rent equipment including the trucks, and produce material electronically (already recorded). One could add a few mic acoustic pans and rent or buy electronic pan instruments such as the e-pan, and others around. With an outfit of 25 men/women using this electronic sounds of pans the volumes can be raised as high as one wants like the other electronic bands. If this is not done,. pan will remain out of the carnivals for good. There are mid year small festivals where pan bands come out and everyone is quite satisfied. Thanks for this as well. All is not lost friends its just there are no bands desiring to move in this direction. As soon as one comes out successfully it will be followed by many. There are sufficient millionaires in T&T to handle this. Plus the electronic steel bands can make the fetes as well as playing for the big bands on the road. If not, that is the end of steel bands on the roads for carnival. Every year it gets worst. Here is something to listen too and relax with.
It's called "Nerfertiti" by Wayne Shorter. Don't be afraid of electronics. T&T pan developers have longed hope for this day to come as well. Lets give thanks again to Bertie Marshall for making early attempts at this. It is here make use of it that's all.

              https://www.distribuware.com/music/nerfertiti.wav

              • The spelling should be Nefertiti. Mistake on my part. The meaning is
Nefertiti, whose name means "a beautiful woman has come," was the queen of Egypt and wife of Pharaoh Akhenaten during the 14th century B.C. She and her husband established the cult of Aten, the sun god, and promoted Egyptian artwork that was radically different from its predecessors.

The beautiful sound of the electronic pan has come.

  • Claude, thanks you for this post.

Setting up and managing a website has been suggested, but we don't have the required skill sets as yet.

If anyone wishes to volunteer their expertise freely, CIP would be very appreciative.

You may have noticed that I took Mr Joseph (PT P.R.O) to task a number of times about PT website,so if CIP has one it would have to more user friendly.

Claude please understand that CIP Mission is much, much more than undermining Mr Diaz......as he and his Executive are only stumbling blocks (notable, yes), but there are mountains and other unforeseen obstacles to encounter along the journey.

Claude CIP knows that TT pan world has to play catch up,many guys in CIP have recently been EX-PATS,some are doing the Global pan circuit,so we are not so shut off from the real world.....actually that's one reason for CIP's genesis.

Bring on the website Claude....we would welcome it.

    In Pan.
