Yesterday it was announced on none other than the Pan showed hosed by the president of Pan Trinbago, Keith Dias, that two prominent pan arrangers were pulled over by the Trinidad police, and ticketed for “playing a noisy instrument.”  According to the caller into the radio show, the arrangers were playing and listening to a pan music CD in their car.

Has anyone else heard this?

  • It is if the only "noise" the authorities police and ticket is pan-related, isn't it? The only info I turned up on a cursory search is...

  • Is this a steelband thing? A 'dub' thing? A Jamaican thing?  Whether it is a steelband or piano, classic or calypso, hip-hop or jazz, the fact is that the music was too loud. Ticket was in order.

  • If the men were blasting DUB  they would not of gotten a ticket.   Dub is the choice of music now all over trinidad.  Our own Pan and calypso is now  seasonal.    And when it is that time of the year DUB is still the choice.  Only the people who come down to carnival keeps the home grown culture alive in a small way.

    • So Road Runner what you are saying in ah nut-shell is it's ah waste of time to start sending back J'cans because their music has already taken over. Trini gone RASS.

  • Has this been picked up and reported in the print media also? Curious to hear what PT pres, Keith Dias had and has to say about the incident...
  • Hey thanks Claude but you can only take so much from that guy, the nerve of him asking me when last I touched my pan.
I am kept so busy here I am actually glad when I don't have to play somewhere .
He doesn't know me so what is he trying to say , he does a lot of gigs and others don't. He has to learn to respect people and don't put people down all the time. That is the main thing ,Liam Teague is one of the best panists around today, the first time he spoke to me he called me Mr. Dayal . That is what you call respect. Blessings.
  • Thanks Jerome. With me living up here I don't know the situation there but when I go on vacation , I hardly ever see the law around . I usually stay in San Fernando , St. Joseph and Arima.
    • Winston (Gons): Don't let the heat of the discussions on the form dilute the humility that you have displayed on this forum for so long. I am sure that you know what I mean.

  • Did not hear this story before! But recognizable as drivers who play music often do so indiscriminately, as we who live in T&T. know. Then there is the unexplainable accident, which is not uncommon and you ask-- was there a distraction while driving?

  • Hey Michael , remember the days of those Indian Weddings where they use to blast music over their loudspeakers almost all night for about a week. People hardly complained then. Is that still happening and do the cops make them turn it down also ? We have the same law here with the young guys with their high end cars and Bose speakers in their trunk. The rock your house windows when they pass by. The cops here hardly lay charges for this even though its against the law.
Blessings for a healthy new year.
