  • Dear Mr. Wong,

Your input with regard to distinguishing the respective categories of steelband winners’ data for Toronto, is immensely appreciated, to set the history on the right path.

We will be in contact with the party who submitted the information - for further illumination and accuracy.  In the meantime, the data will be listed as a “work in progress” and “subject to change.”

  • This is very misleading. The very first steelband competition in Toronto was in 1970 and was won by the "Impacts" steelband out of a field of three bands. There was no steelband competition or panorama as stated in the listing until Cecil Clake arranged a competion in 2000. This was won by "Silhouettes". From 2000 the listings are correct for an organised steelband competition. The wins that are refered to in the listing  from 1971 to 1999 were for the best 'Beating" band on the road dring the Caribana parade. I would further like to mention the in many cases, there were only one or two bands on the road. It is impotant to clarify this situation before the statiistics mentioned here distorts the history on pan in Toronto.
