Utopia Pan Soul re: USSA & NAS

Utopia Pan Soul: next generation Inc. has taken the position of nonaligned status in the midst of turmoil regarding the representation of steel bands between “U.S.S.A” and the newly formed “National Alliance of Steel bands”. There has been a continuous struggle within the association (U.S.S.A) for years to achieve objectives (based on facts rather than thoughts or opinions and free of bias or prejudice caused by personal feelings) and to produce transparency. The interest on behalf of Senator Eric Adams to seek funding for U.S.S.A sparked the interest or rejuvenation of band leaders’ participation at the meeting table of U.S.S.A. (Before this, meetings usually were poorly attended unless something prominent was at the table). What eventually ensued were a vote of no confidence and the dismantling of the present executive board of U.S.S.A… With the support of a number of bands, the National Alliance of steel bands has been reportedly formed to represent steel band interests. So now we have two associations vying for support from steel bands to represent steel bands. Utopia Pan Soul: next generation Inc. has taken a neutral stance for reason being we stand to support a “united” steel band alliance that will address the real issues and concerns of the steel band fraternity here in North America and refuse to take sides that would further promote bitterness and/or division amongst us (The Pan Fraternity). We at Utopia Pan Soul feel that a “double headed” representation of “Pan” is not in the best interest of the steel band movement and hereby excuse ourselves from inclusion until a united front is achieved. Until such time, we will remain open to involvement with regards to the progressive efforts made towards the upliftment of our indigenous art form alongside any individual steel band, God willing.
