UWI graduates underemployed

NEW Principal of the University of the West Indies (UWI), St Augustine campus Professor Brian Copeland said there is unprecedented levels of underemployment of UWI graduates even in the high demand professions of medicine and law.


He made the comments in his inaugural speech as the ninth principal of the campus during his induction ceremony held on Saturday night at the Daaga Auditorium, UWI, St Augustine.

Copeland said that he accepted the challenge to nurture their students to spot commercial opportunities and derive novel, ingenious and workable solutions to economic, societal and ecological challenges.

  • Come on Copeland there is plenty work for students. Have them use their brains to develop moveable steelband racks, with ease, for the road on carnival days. Lots of work here, investigating materials, using robotics, lightweight batteries etc. Show the world HOW TO DO IT by utilizing the intelligence and creativity of UWI students.

    Again, big trucks were not invented as part of any Trinidad and Tobago steelband.

      • Nice!!  Where are the supporters? What I do know is a heavy paycheck owed to the truck driver.

        • You got that right patrick, where are the supporters? a perfect example of what this mode of transport did to the steelband.
