Former NLCB Fonclaire arranger Ken Professor Philmore is now the new arranger of Sangre Grande Cordettes. We all know that it was not going to take too long for this pan Icon to land a job with a popular band. In fact I think that he will fit in perfectly with this band that have a lot of potential and has been knocking on the doors for years. Now with this new addition Sangre Cordettes will finally get some.  respect. My only hope is that they go back to large. Congratulations and good luck to Cordettes in the 2018 panorama

  • Mr. Traverso,

I can tell you what kind of steel pan you started on, what year you first started who asked permission for your Very strict father to allow you to play, and what was your Nick name. I have been reading your contributions since you started on this forum. I am concerned of some of your positions, but that's your opinion and it stands. But today, I have to question you on the band you did not mention. Did you know Ashley Cooper?  I was the secretary/drill master of that band, and have right here in front of me the record of the day that you Joined the band.. Nuff said.

    • Carlyle this is Wayne Traverso brother. Me and brother Anthony played with Antillean All Stars before we migrated in 1977. You are right my dad was a very strict man but both of us sneaked out the house one night and ended up in the panyards which as you know was close by on Carib St. The captain at that time Tackie and vice captain Earl Turin(who I am friendly with) had to beg him for us to learn the culture.By the way my legit first name is Arthur but every one know me by my middle name Wayne growing up. I did not associate with Hillside Symphony but I think one of my brothers use to take a chuck but I was a supporter because it was a community band . We played with Antillean when Bendix Cumberbatch was arranger . Since moving to NY I have supported the Steelpan culture and we all are ambassadors in many different ways .
      • Thank you for the info man. Who we used to call "NARNY"? Which one of the brothers Had a high pitched voice. I believe that he was going through a voice change. Wasn't that Anthony? Give him my regards.

        • Yes you are right Anthony nickname was "Nanni " and you was the one who got permission from my former robust dad ( RIP Papa) for him to play with you and Ashley Cooper band Hillside Symphony. I think he use to play the tenor and that was a learning process. I played the Grundig/ Guitar pan and Nanni stayed with the tenor with Antillean. I think my dad wanted the both of us to play with the same band and that is probably why he stopped playing with Hillside or maybe he played with both bands . I spoke to Francis aka Small Mass who is in Florida and he sends his greetings to you . Nanni don't mess with the Internet only me and Nigel . I am on FB if you want to see more of the family. We had some good days growing up . God bless .
  • Claude I know I have not been on the forum for a while because I have other things in life going on like traveling the world. Looks like you getting a case of Alsymers my friend because every one but you know that I grew up and beat pan for Antillean All Stars in San Fernando. My mother is from Barateria and my aunt was married to the former captain of the old San Juan All Stars( Aldwin Natty Lynch) I also have another aunt that was married to the former captain of Lever Brothers Guy Flamingoes ( Bob Toroulde) .So this is why I know a lot about pan because I have family all over Trinidad. You is ah real miserable guy and trouble maker and I hope you didn't get Aquil and Gregory Lindsay in trouble in my absence. Also watch out I am from south so I know how to stick fight . Panorama is three months away so leh we focus on pan because we have some Dominicans coming to make up the shortage of pan players .
  • Claude my guess is that money is secondary when coming to Panorama. Prestige, boasting rights and being in the limelight seem to be more important because they all have been crying about not being paid every year but they keep coming back . On the other hand Pro makes his money touring the world after Panorama as a soloist. I grew up with the talented brother. If you ever come to Brooklyn, NY visit Charlie's Records on Fulton St , he has about twenty album CDs by the Professor. Also Charlie who is a popular Trini has a daughter playing in the WNBA for the NY Liberty.
    • Arthur: Make up uh mind, nah. One time yuh come on the forum and say yuh from ST. JOHN. Ah next time yuh say yuh from San Juan and now yuh saying yuh grow up in South with PROFESSOR. Ah tell yuh one time that you and I is ah KINDA FAMILY but you did not read the post.

  • Ken Professor Philmore has been a GOOD GLOBAL AMBASSADOR FOR PAN. He should forget about that PANORAMA NONSENSE and focus on producing a GOOD PAN CD that could get some GLOBAL AIR PLAY.

Ah hear PAN MEN only getting $250.00 for this PANORAMA!!! Why dey wasting dey time is BEYOND ME!!

  •  good luck  ken
