"YEAR FOR LOVE" by VOICE was one of the most successful CARNIVAL SONGS of all time. It win SOCA MONARCH and it win PANORAMA and it win ENDLESS AIR PLAY and it win VOICE a THOUSAND APPEARANCES IN CARNIVAL FETES and it win the HEARTS OF CALYPSO LOVERS and it win all kinda MEDIA ACCLAIM and it almost win CALYPSO KING and ROAD MARCH .. and ah sure ah leave out ah set ah other things that it win.
But I am still trying to put this CALYPSONG in context because I does mostly listen to LYRICS in CALYPSO. Long time (in the fifties and sixties) when crime was rising in T&T and dem CALYPSONIANS used to sing about crime dey used to take the bull by the horns and take a very aggressive and realistic view of the growing crime situation. Caruso and Sparrow and Kitchener et al. -- if you go back and listen to their songs on YOUTUBE you will get the picture that has been painted.
This year VOICE addressed the CRIME SITUATION in his BIG SONG and presented it as the "YEAR FOR LOVE" when in reality this is the worst-opening year for MURDER and CRIME in the history of TRINIDAD and TOBAGO.
The recent Jan-Feb totals: In 2015 we had 60 and in 2016 we had 86 and in 2017 we had 88 and in 2018 (The Year For Love) we already have 94 with 8 days to go -- a runaway record. And I sure that everybody read about all the ROBBERIES that went on during the CARNIVAL.
I know that the POLICE and the GOVERNMENT are in DENIAL about the crime situation!!!
But has CALYPSO lost its VOICE?
