As I said I estimate that probably about 1/6th of the working class in Port of Spain and environs were employed as Security, Rope-holders, and Hired Help in Pretty Mas Mardi Gras bands- and in CPEP cleaning up the road after these bands. Literally thousands of the working class. Especially the young men. At one time these same young working-class black men made up most of the masqueraders and creators of the Carnival... Their marginalisation from the Centre of the Festival is why Carnival has lost nearly all its Power...   • I would want that too. But would THEY want that? Do they want to spend hours wire bending, gluing, crafting and rehearsing? Or do they just want to make a quick dollar?
