Snowflakes On Steel

Last night I went to an awesome pan show in Toronto put on by the Pan Arts Network. There were four bands, Gemini Pan Groove, Panatics, Pan Fantasy and Afropan playing songs like Ol' Man River, All of Me, Bridge Over Troubled Waters, and I Believe I Can Fly. The pan performances were punctuated by unforgettable vocal performances, and drumming and dance displays. Happy Birthday to Dennis "Tash" Ash performer at 45 Panorara Finals

Mr. Dennis "Tash" Ash is a double second panist in Desperadoes Steel Orchestra since 1961.  He is one of the five who played on all 10 of Desperadoes Panorama victories.  From 1963 to 2014, Dennis played at 50 of the 52 Panorama Preliminaries and 45 of the 51 Finals.  For the older panmen, do you all remember when Desperadoes won the 1965 Prime Minister's Trophy performing the most difficult classical piece at that time, "The Marriage of Figaro?" 'Is Paris burning?'

As the terrorist drama unfolds in Paris, France, I recall that in the mid-60s there was a competition within Panorama for the best version of the theme  song from the war movie: 'Is Paris Burning?'  Former Radio Trinidad broadcaster Rodney Webb of 'Town says Paramount' fame use to advertise the competition on his 15-min programme on Sundays. Does anyone remember who had won that competition?
