  • Tune was shortened and new parts added ,also ran 4th in 87.present competition below standard, new judges same results, every band had choice to select tune of choice(their best tune ever). Give the band it's due, they showed the qualities of champion (panorama, band of year, people choice (ever thought why, easy discipiline),and now international champs.ps they won all big prizes (money)offered in competitions.hail the champs.
  • Read my comment more carefully Maitland…again:

"The problem I have with All Stars' win is a problem I have with the very structure of the competition. I believe that much more could have been achieved if all bands were mandated to do new tunes."

Plain and simple…I too enjoyed All Stars' performance and suspected that from the quality of delivery they would have won, hence my expressed opinion on playing a familiar tune as I further commented:

You cannot mix matters with a competition…either we all play back-in-time music or fresh, original arrangement…it could never be a fair competition if anybody has an edge, and once you can play a tune you already know, the entire competition is compromised in your favor...

If you read my comment again you would see that I also opined that the only bands that actually were not at fault (as far as I am concerned) were the foreign bands and Renegades and Phase II. All other Trini bands took the easy way out. A close friend of mine suggested to me that since Pan Trinbago has been allowing old-time tunes for the last few years it would be wrong for them come and change the rule just for this competition. I however beg to differ. If Pan Trinbago had the beach-ball size balls that I have, they would have correctly stipulated that only fresh music be played by all competitors, thereby ensuring that their intellectual faculties are truly tested.

I am down here long enough to know how thin-skinned All Stars and most other "big band" supporters are so I do expect resistance to my sentiments. Again I repeat my alma mata's moto: “Certant Omnes sed non omnibus palma,” which when translated into English means: “All struggle but not for all is the prize."

I too am big enough to express my congrats to All Stars…after all Smooth is a Old boy too...

  • merrytonestothebone,

I agree with some of your sentiments and maybe old tunes should not be played at a panorama, however you are then opening a kettle of fish you should not open. People have long said old tunes are killing panorama and the pan music industry as well but so too is home grown music. Curry Tabanca was played so long ago that I can bet you more than half of All Stars if not most were not even born or were not even old enough to play the tune in the first place in 1987. To them it is new music. It was a new arrangement with old parts intertwined in it, and as such had to be learned from scratch and practiced like any other panorama selection played. How about complaining when Exodus played the same 2015 Panorama selection or Pan Elders doing the same 2015 tune also. Not because All Stars won they must be condemned for that. All Stars Forever

  • ok good I found it .......

  • what are the whole results I couldn't find it anywhere .....

    annie

  • Winners of panorama international Trinidad 2015

  • Great performance. one thing that i would have preferred was to hear more of the song. Sometimes the arrangements was a bit overkill and took away from the song.
  • Merrytone.... if that's the case, then why not make all bands play a test piece and a tune of choice. Are we judging the bands on their music or the popularity of the tune.

  • Very good performance.Congrats!!!
