Many years ago I got this 1984 Trinidad Steeband Panorama video tape, and it was one of the first video tapes that I converted to digital.I still think these were some of the better panorama performances of them all, and it includes some of my all time favorites from Trinidad All Stars, Renegades, Casablanca and Despers.It also includes some of the traditional "pan 'round neck" bands of that era.So Pan people, enjoy!.

  • Thanks for this, It is priceless!

  • Glenroy, with your permission I'd like to send this on to a friend in Detroit to let him feel what he has missed over the years. excellent posts.

  • Well I really enjoy see the single pan around the neck of these players.

  • oops I stand corrected It is Chord Masters playing first. Gay Hoytonians also played the same tune.

  • Thanks for the video, the is quality superb.The 1st band is Gay Hoytonians playing Ah feeling it.At the prelims Despers won with 289pts., Renegades 282, Phase II 279,Casablanca 278, T'dad All Stars 272.At the final Renegades476,T'dad AllStars 458.5, Casablanca 454.5,Despers 454 Exodus 452.5 Phase II 452.Here's something for the history books.On the carnival Friday Neville Jules, the captain of T'dad All Stars was speaking to someone about crashing the band due to financial woes.He did not realize that the person to whom he was speaking was connected to the company which handled a line of pasta products. To cut a long story short the band hit the road on Jourvert morning as Catelli Trinidad All Stars.I'm not to savy about putting videos on the web, but I do have the video clip. The cap't John "Poison" Douglas claimed that his band introduced dancing while playing at the panorama that year.

  •  @Glenroy,

                        I just saw for the first time your post of the 1986 Pan Is Beautiful. I enjoyed it very much. I heard talk as to why Desperadoes won only the Test Piece, but All Stars won Best Tune of Choice and  tied for first in the Calypso Category, but Desperadoes was declared the overall winner. Answer 9-(4+3=2 (lol)

    Desperadoes won their category by 9 points and lost the other two categories by 4 & 3 points respectively

  • Sorry about my error, should be 1986 for Desperadoes & Renegades, and 1987 for All Stars.

    My Goof. (lol)

  • As always good job Mr. Joseph. Ed stated our sentiments about you exactly (lol)                                             1984 was also my first time of seeing a Panorama video and the first one I owned.

    Some of my trivia from the 1984 Panorama:

    (1) This was the 6th year that the Panorama winner of the previous year did not place in the top-three the following year. In 1971-Desperadoes, 1974-All Stars, 1975-Harmonites, 1980-Starlift, 1983-Renegades and 1984-Desperadoes. {Renegades,Desperadoes and All Stars will follow in 1985 and 1986}

    (2) Jit Samaroo/Renegades' 17.5 points winning margin was the widest until Len Sharpe/Phase II's of 2005.

    (3) This was Henry Cumberbatch/Casablanca's first and last 2nd place.

    (4) 1984 was the first of three times that Desperadoes will miss placing third by 1/2 of a point. (1993 & 2007)

    Was 1984 the first year that Len Sharpe's composition was sung?
