A Multi-Disciplinary Artistic Exploration

Friends,

I rarely send email these days, but I'm excited to share an upcoming project with you!

During the spring I was selected to be part of an artist cohort called NextLOOK by The Clarice at The University of Maryland.  As so many of you know - my homeland, St. John U.S.V.I. was devastated last year by two back-to-back category 5 hurricanes.  With St. John being the most isolated of the Virgin Islands, the lack of communication, conflicting and unreliable information on the ground, and a general lack of media coverage affected the community and diaspora profoundly.  "The Other Side of the Storm", a concert featuring new music, dance, narrative, and multimedia projection, is the culmination of months of research, composing, collaboration, and several hours of interviews, all in an effort to tell OUR story as Virgin Islanders.  As an artist I feel a responsibility to tell that story - the good and the bad - with honesty and openness.

I'm very proud and excited about this project which features a dozen incredible musicians (many from the U.S.V.I), two incredibly talented dancers, riveting first-person narrative, and visionary video projection.

So please join us if you can, or forward this email to all your friends in the Washington, D.C. metro area!
