  • Dear merrytonestothebone,

please permit me to reply to some elements of your contribution in the manner that I have choses after identifying specifically to what I refer:

    1. Call me ole' fashioned...But I am missing Steelband involvement in this form of Pan Ramajay.
    2. drive another nail in the coffin of dying Steelbands who may have otherwise entered the competition.
    3. to see more Steelbands involved...plain and simple.

    Vasant Bharath began an article he wrote recently in Jack Warner's newspaper The Sunshine in the following manner, and I quote;

"There are crucial reasons why crisis leadership is taught at business universities and other places of learning. Guidance and control during periods of emergency are such critical components of all aspects of modern life.
Crisis leadership is integral in averting or mitigating a disaster and in lessening subsequent disruptions.
The experts say there are six vital components to effective crisis management
    being

    1. adaptable,
    2. empathetic,
    3. prepared,
    4. resilient,
    5. transparent and
    6. trustworthy."

EMPATHY STANDING ALONE IS BACKWARD, LAZY AND BANKRUPT.

  • Call me ole' fashioned...But I am missing Steelband involvement in this form of Pan Ramajay. I understand the business of the three categories but that has served to drive another nail in the coffin of dying Steelbands who may have otherwise entered the competition. In this the first Ramajay after many years I can identify an Exodus, a Roadblock/Desperadoes a Codrington Pan Family and two U.S. based mixed Steelbands. I want to see more Steelbands involved...plain and simple. I also appreciate the efforts at spontaneous improv from most performers. Back in the day quite a lot of the performances featured rehearsed improv lines. We certainly have come a long way as panists in that regard and with education and serious woodshedding it could only get better. Good one Exodus...

    • I thought about your point of view here about making it about STEELBANDS (small ensembles) -- and you are right.

My concern has always been about BUILDING GLOBAL AUDIENCES for PAN MUSIC and having more STEELBANDS involved could be the BETTER ATTRACTION.

I still remember a VIDEO of a STEELBAND GROUP doing STARDUST in a PAN RAMAJAY and it was WORLD CLASS then -- imagine for TODAY.

Just make sure ALLYUH doh leave out CANADA and ENGLAND and SWEDEN and AUSTRALIA and AFRICA and CHINA -- the next time around.

I listened to EVERYBODY so far, and outside of ONE PERFORMANCE by KHUENT ROSE -- NO THRILLS!!!

KHAN CORDICE gave  a FUNDAMENTALLY SOUND performance in the SEMIS -- but I will not call it INTERNATIONAL.

EXODUS needs to spend some of that GOVERNMENT FUNDING on GLOBAL MARKETING -- instead of just making it a PROFIT CENTER for THEIR STEELBAND!!! A big PAN SHOW like that and you CANNOT draw 500 VIEWERS GLOBALLY -- MAS QUE NADA!!!

  • These are the kind of comments dat does make me ask myself:

wey de fuxk dese people does really come from?

what de fuxk dey does be really thinking?

what de fuxk is regimental and dry?

why de fuxk dey didn't create dey own platform?

why de fuxk dey  didn't raise dey own USD prize money?

why de fuxk dey didn't promote dey own LIVE, COLORFUL, EXCITING show?

If yuh want excitement watch some porn chief, and make ah jock!

    At least sadist went out with a bang by confirming that nothing else eh happening in de pan world globally. Which bring mih back tuh a rhetoric question;

what de fuxk de WORLD GOVERNING BODY FOR PAN REALLY DOING?

Well everybody should be in de office now as ting open back up, so hopefully soon and very soon we the global membership of Pan Trinbago - The World Governing Body For Pan, will hear from our elected leadership.

Meanwhile, I want to publicly and openly applaud the management and members of RENEGADES & EXODUS for carrying the steelband movement on their shoulders, while Pan Trinbago continues to wait idly by yet expectantly on state funds to continue playing de arse, an encouraging corrupt, backward inept steelband leaders whose vote they bait, to exploit the most vulnerable for their own personal and financial gain.

YES THE STEELBAND LEADERS WHO GO ON TELEVISION YEAR IN YEAR OUT WITH DEY BULLSHIT ABOUT,

'IS ABOUT DE YUTES, and IF FUH DE YUTES.

They have demonstrated that they can do fuxk all for the youths in their bands under their leadership without a cue from Pan Trinbago, who unfortunately does not have a clue.

The leaders of RENEGADES & EXODUS are concerned about the youthful exponents of the art form.

The leaders of RENEGADES & EXODUS are concerned about taking the art form forward.

The leaders of RENEGADES & EXODUS are LEADERS.

  • I have listened to the semi-finals in all three categories and was made to believe that it would be live. I was told by a pannist that he could not follow it because it lacked the excitement associated with live performances. As a package it is too regimental and dry but I keep following, hoping for something to excite me. I am planning to take in the finals on Saturday but I have not been able to encourage anyone to follow this competition thus far. There needs to be a little more colour and variety going forward. Just my thoughts being shared and do look forward to the finals because nothing else is happening in the Pan World. The results are very predictable.

    Thanks Exodus

    Kwame

    • "REGIMENTAL AND DRY" -- and done totally from a LOCAL STEELBAND PERSPECTIVE. But in their minds ... it is WORLD CLASS (INTERNATIONAL).

Let's hope that they select a decent commentator for the FINALS and add some colour to the commentary!!!
