A most powerful result emerged out of the sonorous, multi-talented, Big Five steel band musical of the last weekend. The performances created the space for a few of the greatest of our musical talents to perform and enhance the quality of lives.

Along with Exodus, Renegades, Phase 11, Despers, All Stars (inclusive of their sponsors) were the talents of tenor Eddie Cumberbatch, 3Canal, David Rudder and Pelham Goddard, Karene Asche and others, the show achieved exhilarating crescendos in musicality.

Add to the performing talents, the tuners, the arrangers Dr Jit, Boogsie, Smooth Edwards, the organising and administrative and legal skills and know-how, stretching back to the late Teddy Guerra, and now including Martin Daly, SC, and economist Terrence Farrell.

  • A couple of things: Perhaps similar shows can be done a two or three times a year in different locales (South, Tobago, East, etc.). They would promote, entertain and revitalize pan within the local arena.
Secondly, it sends a message that the single "Pan Show," Panorama, needs to be revisited for format, time(s) of year, and the organizer. We get comfortable with the way things are, even though we complain. Small, Medium, Large, and Single require some serious thinking, planning and action. The fellas with the "Big" 5 may have something to say, while listening to others.

  • We finally reach.
    • Patrick: EVERYBODY PIMPING THE PAN. Ah didn't see none of these people hyping the show in the weeks preceding the show. And that was a very LOCAL SHOW that was heavily subsidized. Ah waiting for the INTERNATIONAL VERSION that could survive in the COMMERCIAL MUSIC WORLD. That must be coming in 4 to 5 years.

      • The way Tony treks out the superlatives, one has to wonder whether the show was "the greatest show on earth". It was a good show, a callaloo with the right ingredients. Hmm, hmm good.
