When Steel Talks extends condolences to the family and friends of Mr Eustace 'Manning' Henry & the Hells Gate Steel Orchestra franchise.

Hells Gate Steel Orchestra

'Manning' Henry. Mr. Henry was a master Steelpan Builder, Tuner, Blender, Soloist and Arranger. The name "Hells Gate Steel Orchestra" was submitted by Mr. Henry when the band was deciding upon a name to enter the first ever Panorama competition here in Antigua in 1949. He captained the band from 1958 - 1977, and sacrificed many hours to hone his craft. When many of his colleagues migrated to the US and Europe in the 1950's & 1960's, Mr.Henry chose to stay in Antigua to ensure that the band survived. His contributions to Steelpan artform will never be forgotten. May he Rest in Peace.

  • I am expressing profound, and sincere condolences to the family, friends, and Hell’s Gate Steel Orchestra. Mr. Manning was one of the greatest steel-pan man in the world.

He was a great pan builder, musical arranger, and orchestra leader. The foundation that he laid down in Hells Gate Steel Orchestra created an atmosphere for the orchestra’s longevity and musical successes today.

    Sincerely,

    Musicologist:

    Ronald Benjamin.

  • Condolences to Family and Friends.
