YouTube announced on Monday exclusive livestreaming deals with three popular gamers, its latest talent acquisition in the booming market for watching skilled video gamers stream their feats online.

The three — Rachell “Valkyrae” Hofstetter, Lannan “LazarBeam” Eacott and Elliott “Muselk” Watkins — will move to Google-owned YouTube after years of streaming on Amazon’s Twitch. They’re the latest players in a battle that has heated up over the past few months, as streaming companies lock in the biggest stars.

Twitch has dominated livestreaming, particularly video games, beginning with its founding as Justin.tv in 2011 and through Amazon’s 2014 acquisition of the company for nearly $1 billion. Since then, tech rivals YouTube, Facebook and Microsoft’s Mixer have angled to carve footholds in the livestreaming hype with their own platforms amid a booming market and the shift to a more digitally based entertainment industry.

The race got more heated when superstar streamer Tyler “Ninja” Blevins moved to Mixer in August. That was followed by Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek, whose 7 million followers was third-highest on Twitch with 7 million, moved over to Mixer in October.

This should/could be a paradigm shift for Pan Trinbago with its GLOBAL audience. WACK and Advance Dynamics not ready to step=up to the CHALLANGE? A PLATFORM with QUALITY CONTROL.

Some of the best Carnival streams we saw last year, were on Twitch by some young people who live in Trinidad and are actual gammers were taking a break-time for the Carnival day.  The sad thing is that they wanted nothing to do with the Trinidad media outlets. In fact they were commenting on line while broadcasting how out of date the Trinidad professionals were when the saw them in road.

If Pan Trinbago or WACK could ever linkup with them - now that would be something.

      • ...There are others who are willing to give back and help advance the new technology...collaboration.

I was very impressed with this young man's story and how he's giving back.

Trini app developer finds success in New York

He also volunteers at hackathons and coding camps in TT and New York. At the regional tech conference Tech Beach, he met founder Kyle Maloney and his brother Nicholas. Their interests clicked and when the brothers mentioned their intention to start a coding camp in Trinidad, he immediately jumped at the chance to help plan the curriculum and even teach some of the modules. NextGen coding camp started this past summer and the aim is to continue during every school break – mid-year, Christmas and Easter holidays.

“Yes, I have my Trinidad App Brewery, but it’s not a competition. The goal is about moving the country forward and getting these things out. It’s not about what’s mine and what’s yours, it’s about collaboration.”

About 60 young people – ages 12 to 18– who never knew anything about programming now know how to build their own websites and are asking how to get better.

    • An opportunity for Pan Trinbago and WACK to be ahead of the curve for once. But I don't think they are listening.
