Time may be allotted for traditional mas only on the Queen’s Park Savannah stage on Carnival Monday.

The National Carnival Commission (NCC) is considering a proposal to return traditional mas to the Carnival in Port-of-Spain by allocating time on stage for traditional mas characters.

“We are looking at one of the Carnival days, maybe Monday, to bring the traditional mas into Port-of-Spain in a window of maybe three hours for spectators,” said NCC Chairman Kenny DeSilva.

He said the challenge is to bus all of the traditional mas from the Regional Carnivals communities into Port-of-Spain.

Speaking at the distribution of disbursements to the regional Carnival committees this morning, Darion Marcelle, Commissioner of Regional Carnival, said traditional mas is the only element of mas that distinguishes Trinidad and Tobago’s Carnival from the rest of the world.
