Pan Trinbago Mourns the Loss of Supie and Composer

Once again the cultural community is plunged into mourning with the passing two (2) of calypso veterans, Dr. Andrew Marcano aka Superior and Fred Mitchell HMB aka Mighty Composer.

The President and Executive of Pan Trinbago Inc. and the larger steelband movement extend its deepest sympathy to the calypso fraternity and the national community on the death of these icons.

Both of these calypsonians impacted on the steelband body through their compositions and more so as visionaries.

Bro Superior fondly known as “Supie” was an advocate for many decades to have more local (music) content played on the airwaves.  After a long struggle, he was afforded a radio license from the government which saw the coming on stream of Radio Superior.  As a prolific composer, musician and singer, he produced many memorable calypsoes such as “Standardise Pan”, “Put A Woman on Top” and “San Fernando Carnival” to name a few.

Composer as a foundation member of the Calypsonian Association in Trinidad & Tobago was one of three signatories on the MOU that resulted with the Special Interest Groups having more automony in the managing of their events.

Pan Trinbago and the entire steelband body join with their families in mourning the loss these national treasures.

May they rest in peace.

  • The losses  and the grief keep piling up, getting deeper.

Was so very good knowing and hearing  and loving the talent these giants who helped lay the level of creativity and cultural genius after the foundation put down by Roaring Lion, and those of his era.

I hope Trinidad has documented all of this delicious and significant history.

Farewell "Supie Darling"  Farewell Composer, thanks for all you provided this world and our special little country.
