The Members’ of the Guyana Police Force Steel Orchestra ¬Band broke down in tears of joy after being crowned as the champions of the senior category of Republic Banks, Annual Mashramani Pan-o-rama Steel Band Competition.

The event which was held on Sunday February 17, 2019, commenced at about 16.30hrs at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue, Georgetown with the junior categories with intense medleys, which resulted in Buxton Secondary retaining their title after a classic performance.

Following with the senior category, the GPF’s Steel Orchestra who have not won the competition since 2013, went up against the reigning Champion, The National School of Music Steel Orchestra and The Park Side Steel Orchestra.

The Police Steel Orchestra was introduced to the panel by Inspector Michael Smith, who then handed over the band to the man of the Night, the “ultimate” Police Sergeant 22093 Ray Sparman who had the crowd on their toes, screaming and moving in favour of the Champions.

The results of the event were highly anticipated by the crowd which cheered in approval of the Police being champion, even before the Judges made their final decision; declaring them as the winner of the large Band Category, with 255.5 points.

They played Jumo Primo’s “Tribute” in a stylistic and versatile manner, with dynamic drumming, captivating melodies and resonating applauds from the crowd.

Present at the event was Minister of Public Communication Ms. Cathy Hughes, Managing Director of Republic Bank (Guyana), Ltd, Mr. Richard Sammy, Permanent Secretary of the Minister of Presidency Department of Social Cohesion, Culture, Youth and Sports; Melissa Tucker, Director of Culture Ms. Timeka Boatswaim, members of the Central Mashramani Committee and other Senior Officials.
