IMHO: Steelbands were the "invention" of the same gang demographic, however, they were marginalized, because the society accepted the instrument (pan) but rejected the environments/communities that birthed it. As such, the youth were left with no other alternative, but to return to violence, less their instruments that was handed over to more acceptable members of society. The instrument is in good hands, because it is the only thing that matters, in terms of its economic value. More power.
