With few exceptions, I have always found Lord Kitchener's lyrics to be gratuitous (and pandering) so I have dismissed my of his calypsos -- especially PAN IN A MINOR.
But from a STEELBAND PERFORMANCE and INTERPRETATION of this song ON PAN ... IT IS GENIUS!!! The integration of the calypso idioms and the rhythmic structure (even if a little TOO WHITE for me) ... THIS IS THE NUCLEAR BOMB OF PAN MUSIC!!!
Very good to hear you acknowledge the greatness of this arrangement. However, this world famous arrangement of 'A Minor' was done by the late great Dr. Jit Samaroo.
