This book is about the steel pan musical instrument, which is made from a 55 gallon oil drum steel container, the only musical instrument created in the 20th Century, the true History of it, and the men who pioneered contributing their hard work, men like Carlton (sonny /sire) Roach, leader player tuner inventor, Anthony (muff man/skip) Williams Leader tuner inventor innovator arranger player, and visionary Percy (lizard) Thomas, tuner player innovator, Neville Jules leader tuner player innovator arranger.
The information that is in this book is about to disclose is whom, did what, when, where, how and why, time, dates, photos, technological schematic’s, etc.
Invention by way of discovery, the only musical instruments to be invented in the “Twentieth Century” 20th in Trinidad and Tobago the year 1936, “Pan” as it is called in Trinidad and Tobago today, has, and is still suffering from what is called a” his story “epidemic, where fabricated stories, lies and chaos are rampant, as the actual inventors and innovators are not credited for their work, men like Carlton “sonny” Roach, Anthony “muffman”Williams, Percy “lizard” Thomas, and Neville Jules, and others like Lennox Pierre and Andrew “Carlyle Kerr organizers of the 1951 T.A.S.P.O. and Lt Joseph Nathaniel Griffith arranger for the T.A.S.P.O., until these men are credited for their work, the “Art form” will remain in limbo.
Another example is the actual violence associated with the “Steel Pan” is so greatly exaggerated, that it’s pathetic, and ignorant to even mention its association with the instrument, as the actual violence itself was not cause by the individual players themselves, but instead by supporters, I know this for a fact because I was in the middle of the biggest Carnival riots in “Trinidad”& Tobago, on Charlotte Street, Carnival Tuesday 1956 with Cairo Steel band, I was nine (9) years old at the time, approaching ten (10), other players and myself were hiding between 55 gallon bass drums, while others were running and ducking into other people gate way and yards to get away from the bottle throwing, I saw those who were rioting with knives, cutlasses / machetes, stones / rocks etc, you name it they had it. Most of the violence was because one band was either playing better than the other, or some was whining / dancing up on someone else’s woman/girlfriend, my “Gist” is a question, how could a player be playing pan and fighting at the same time? Only when you mess with a player while he’s playing his “pan” This stigma needs to be put to rest. Because what we have before us a indigenous body of instruments that have broadened the musical family of the world, which fortunately happens to be a trillion dollar industry begging to be embraced, as the music business in it self is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway lined with thieves and pimps like Animn Smith, Brian Copeland et al, meaning the Late former P.M. Patrick Manning, Junio Regrello, Clement Imbert, via there “Alleged Genesis G-pan etc etc etc, and Keith DIAZ, as great talented men die like dogs, this book was written to clarify and abrogate these chaotic epidemics, while attempting to curtail the ambiance of thieves and pimps, within it’s sphere.
Most stories to date; in “Trinidad and Tobago”, and in various parts of this humble planet earth has it that, the steel band musical instrument, or “Pan” as it is called today, the only musical instrument invented in the twentieth century,
CH, "Pan" as we call it today, derived or started with the first dustbin band, back in the mid nineteen thirties, there were tin pans, bottles, bamboo's, bed chambers or pozey's, pot's and pan's, hub caps, ect, actualy it was there before the costic soda, and biscuit drum, before steel drum arrived in 1945, these men has passed on, but some is remembered, Carlton "sonny" Roach, Adawell Sampsoen, Carlton "Bigs" Marshall, Winston "wolf" King, Big "daddy" Cole ect, it has to change, like the time's, as well as be crowded...
CH , we'll take it in part or in whole, some one is gonna pay, EVEN IN HELL, SNSE is a subsidiary, 49% owned by a foreign syndicate with a buy back clause, and they WILL, take it outta someone's hide one way or the other or, proberbly we will own T&T in part, they should'nt mess with things that doesn't belong to them , the subsidiary transaction was done for this very reason ...
CH, the Y is the problem, and the problem is that, most pan ppl cannot see the "forrest" for the "sleaze / fleas blood suckers" like Copeland, Diaz, et al ect ect, the Steel band / Pan industries is a Multi-Trillion industry waiting to be plucked, where the hallways are lined with "pimps and thieves", LIKE THE FOREMENTIONED, in 2004 Selwyn Tarradath et al/and others, derived a Techono Pan project in Diego Martin area that was financed by The National Lottery Board, which somehow failed later on as the finance had mysteriously depleated, guess who was involved in the finance on the Lottery Board??? none other than Brian R.Copeland, after that he and his other "LODGE BUDDIES" we're given a mandate by his alleged relative the then PM in 2005, to research and create a new family of steel pans based on the 4ths & 5ths or "spider web tenor pan" which had already research and created by Anthony Williams, and Design Patent Trademark and Copyrighted by SNSE for and in the name of Williams, the 29 inch big tenor pan Williams derived in 1968 Copeland called his Genesis first of it's kind G-pan he forged from Williams where he recieved the country Highest Award for Williams work implementing "Plagiarism, where $81.5 million U.S. dollars of T&T tax payers money has been alotted to date, and it isn't over as yet, my GIST is a question, which country is gonna own the right's of the STEEL PAN??? PAY ATTENTION PEOPLE...
