Do you know which steelband was in the first three spots of the Trinidad and Tobago National Panorama Competition 15 times between 1980 and 1997? Well then type: renegades.co.tt in your browser and get not only the answer to the question but learn all there is to know about the world famous, BP Renegades Steel Orchestra, from their brand new web site.

Developed for the band by Herman Brathwaite, the new site provides information on the history and development of the band from its inception in 1948, to present time. You can also flip through the profiles of the arrangers or learn of past, present and up coming events. You will find information there too of the Renegades Youth Steel Orchestra, but best of all, you can listen to recordings of live performances of their Festival Band, Stage Side and the Youth Steel Orchestra. So why then are you still wasting time reading this blog when you can simply check out the website instead. Beats me.

Dr JIT Samaroo

The Honorary Doctorate bestowed on Dr Samaroo was truly deserved

He is the most gifted and the humblest of persons I have ever met and known in my entire life.

He has left us a legacy and record that will not be easily broken/achieved in a long, long time.

He has left the Renegades Steel Orchestra with many fond memories and achievements that will never be forgotten by generations.

As a true Trini son of the soil; he excelled in the musical field, and let…

My heartfelt Condolences and that of the BP Renegades Steel Orchestra go out to the family and friends of the late Edwin Pouchet; as well as to his band, Silver Stars with whom Renegades sheared a close relationship. May you Rest In Peace Brother; I will always remember you as a sincere friend and an excellent steelband arranger and administrator.

It is now official, Duvone Stewart will take the BP Renegades Steel

Samaroo. Since Dr Samaroo’s retirement in 2007, the band has been out of the

top three placing but according to its President, Michael Marcano, is determined

(Sandra Blood writes on the humbling of Renegades)

Renegades extends congratulations to the bands that are cited to perform at Panorama finals come Saturday 5th February, while at the same time, thinks it fitting to addresses the unfortunate circumstance that skewed the judges ability to properly hear its rendition.

On Thursday February 10, five days before Panorama preliminaries, a feature “Renegades coming ready,…

Hey Michael, Do you know whether the radio station plans to stream its programming so it can be played on sites and Apps such as "Tune In"? We can only listen to you on an internet based computer, not mobile devices on the move.

Michael, that was just simply a great arrangment Amrit did for the band. I'm playing it over and over again and enjoying it more every time. I picked up many of his father's music sprinkled throughout. Was that a little combination of From Beyond, Mystery Band & Pan on the Road at around the 2:00 mark? I might be mistaken but that's what it sounded like. I heard snippets from others as well: Iron Man, Sound of the Ghost, the guitar pan solo from Guitar Pan & Pan in A Minor. And my gosh, I'm pretty sure that was One Bad Apple at the opening, Jit's very first arrangement for the band! I can't wait until the 21st to see what Amrit will add or change to the Finals version...

Thank you for adding me as friend. I think you're a manager for the orchestra if i'm not mistaken? Pass along my support to Jit and his son please. I've been a huge fan of them for some time now. I wasn't able to make the trip down to Trinidad for Panorama this year but I'm really looking forward to hearing Amrit's arrangement of "Dr. Jit" at the Semi's.

It sounded great last night. I've recently quite my job and now i have time so i am going to start learning the tune from tomorrow...if just to know it and practice it and be part of the experience...i'm not sure if i'll come up to standard in time or whether there would be space. i'm trying to call Miguel today to see what he thinks and if it's ok and whether to learn high or low parts....I get a feeling that this might be the year of the comeback - once, as you say, everything is executed properly. All of that music that did so well in the past was almost flawlessly performed in the competitions - it can't be any less this time around or it won't have the desired impact.

Hey, how's the music going? I plan to come hear you guys soon. I gave my one month's notice to quit my job this past week - and now I'm on leave.
