If you like, go ahead and tell your fellow WST Ning members about yourself here
Well i was born in Guyana, have had the privelidge to learn to make Pans,by a tuner, Gerian, from the now defunct Guyana Chronicle Symphony Steel Orchestra, have tried to develop myself , was a part time tuner/trainer/arranger in Nickerie Suriname, and at the moment i,m in Curacao, would have liked to be the owner of a nickle pan, double tenor from Trinidad/Tobago this is one of my wishes, .i,,ll be 56 years of age next month 24th of july and i thank god for the gift of knowing to make the steelpans,i,m still flexible and active but have never had the opportunity to visit the birth land of the Steelpan,i,m not a professional like those from trinidan/tobago, have never had the chance to meet Sharp,Marshall, added to this , in making the steelpan it,s a gift from God our father,an instrument that cannot be i presume, be made by a factory, only man made, i am not active in playing the steelpan here in Curacao, because of not having a Pan,otherwise i,ll definitely try to gvie the Steelpan more publicity which will also be a stepping stone for me,there is already born and established Pan players here in Curacao, thus at the said time i,ve not been here too long on the island i came here in 2008 without a Pan, from Suriname and am still here at the moment living,my gratitude for acceptance to PANONTHENET.COM,and Gods blessings to the founders and makers of the Steelpan a rare, strange and beautifull instrument.

Are we here on WST to discuss old time story or for the purpose of bringing about definite and long lasting change for the benefit of all steelpan men and steelpan women

Having observed the attitude of we /us the members of WST on the forum,,there was redicule,,hate,,non co-operation,,silence,,forgiveness,,and still therafter redicule,,which as grown ups I found it to be very shameful,,2013 was a year of attacks and egotism at the ending of the year there was a resolution I do presume,, for betterment, progress,,focus towards Pantrinbago,,,but it seems to  me that  inner discontent/hate for persons that do produce  a tangible program/Steelpan Wise ,,are…

Mr. J.E. Clarke,

Any 'links' to Suriname's Hindustani music would be greatly appreciated:

I try not to partake in some of WST's 'the bitter clamour of...eager tongues'!

All the best to you,

Mr. J.E. Clarke,

Thanks for your response re my request for a sample of Hindustani music on steelpan. I am not of indian heritage, I happen to be black, born in the British Caribbean Virgin Island of Tortola but lived in several other islands...with varying degrees of English, French, Dutch, Portugese and Spanish influences. And I have worked and exchanged music with colleagues from India and Pakistan.

I LOVE music. At age 8 I had my own short wave radio and listened to music from all over the world, but the Caribbean in particular. I may not always know the language of many songs but if I like the MUSIC (the rhythm, arrangement etc) I am hooked.

Once I began working, I started collecting music LPS, 45s, 78s, casettes etc. So, I had, at one point nearly 5000 items of music of various genres....I recently got rid of most European and R&B items after painstakingly digitizing them.

What I lack is music from the Guianas (the old names?). I do have a few items from Guyana (formerly British Guiana), but NOTHING from Suriname or French Guiana.

So to hear Hindustani music on pan would be a pleasure.....to ('critique")... be able to compare or contrast the rhythmic style to various types of (East) Indian music. NOT TO FIND FAULT. I love music too much to be that petty!!
