Trinidad Carnival 2009 Feat: Desperadoes

I had a great time in Trinidad with my brother Norman and friends. Norman played

Double Seconds with the Desperadoes Steel Orchestra - a long awaited dream came true. Most of this year I spent with Desperadoes, it seemed that anywhere I went I ended back with Desperadoes. Robert Greenidge's arrangement of 'Pan Redemption' was great, and the band is full of so much love, it was a real pleasure to be with the band for the whole season.

Crying For Carnival-mainly for PAN!

So...I'm stuck here in this COLD country. Some of my band members have gone to Trinidad for the Carnival, more so for the Panorama (The Greatest Steelpan Show On Earth). I hope to ease my sadness by catching the finals tonight on the web. [side bar:drupee, play a sweet chord for me!!!]

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but missing Panorama WILL kill me!

TnTPanRadio.com

Anyone has been listening to TnTPanRadio.com and have issues with static noise coming through their speakers?
I have been listening to the Panorama semi finals for large bands, on TnTPanRadio.com, and felt those recordings are pan yard generated, does anyone agree?
Thanks!

PANMAGEDDON

I am writing you this letter in appreciation of the hard work and dedication that the people of Trinidad and Tobago have put into the development of our national instrument. I have mentioned to Mr. Lashley our High Commission in Toronto about organizing an all steelband event on August 31 2012 to commemorate our 50th year of independence by performing the National Anthem of Trinidad and Tobago as a tribute to our Cultural Heritage and our gift to the World. The Steelpan…

Panorama Time is Bradley Time - The Great One Examined

Global - He was simply the world's greatest steelpan music arranger. Moreover, he was the one the titans of pan bowed to. This was his stage, his arena, his moment. This was his time. Panorama was "Bradley Time." Master arranger Clive Bradley, more so than any other, shaped and elevated the music and theatre of the panorama as we know it.

We revisit a musical examination of some of the Master's works by one of the most respected and gifted music talents out of the Caribbean. Frankie… Continue

There has to be something for those of us who love steel pan and can't play and want to do more than be a groupie - maybe you can help a sister out committed to the promotion of the steel art.

I am starting a storytelling circle and would like to include traditional stories/folktales. Really interested in stories that include steelpan/carnival culture. Happy to receive an outline that we can work with or better still any anecdotes from life tale/ experiences of steel pan… Continue

Need to see more small bands

Hi all,

I've been playing pan in Toronto, ON, Canada for 10 years now. I'll be honest: i don't like big bands for the most part. The arrangements seem like complexity for complexity's sake. Don't get me wrong, I like when they play good music, but I find that the competition of it all compromises the music.

Look, I love hearing big bands live when they have a melody that has a direction to it. I respect the heritage behind the big bands.
