New Steel Pan Album

I'm thrilled to share that my 2016 album "Red Head" is now available to listen for FREE on Spotify. You can also get a digital download version or individual tracks from iTunes and Amazon. The album kicks off with Mark Loquan's "Outta De Box" and the title track "Read Head" is Lord Kitchener's tribute to the flame-haried ladies. The rest of the album runs the gamut from pop hits like "Happy" and "Poker Face" to acoustic and classical solos. Please do take a listen and me know what you…See More

"There are hundreds of schools in Britain which have steel bands, but as far as I know (and I investigated this for my PhD) no Universities apart form Roehampton have them as part of the curriculum. Pan may be used for performance in GCSE and A-level…"

NEW PAN CD! - Red Head by Rachel Hayward

I am really pleased to announce the launch of my new CD! Named after Lord Kitchener’s calypso celebration of the flame-haired ladies, the album demonstrates the ample capabilities of the pan for versatility, and for musical and emotional expression. Two tracks (‘Happy’ and ‘Ave Maria’) feature fabulous and unique vocals from my long-term friend from our days in the Radcliffe Rollers Steel Band: Jo Servi. There is a wide range of styles here from soca and calypso to JS Bach and Lou Reed. I've…See More

That's fantastic! It great to meet female soloists who are representing this dynamic instrument. Which instrument do you play? Are there many female soloists where you are?

About the competition, I stumbled upon it through panonthenet "upcoming events" like a month before the deadline. There is no competition website which makes it a bit tough, but I have email info for two of the coordinators...
