In the eyes of the judges and the people, the best band won panorama. One should not criticize that, unless you are prejudice and seeking to advance your personal opinion.  Leon Edwards is not underrated, he is exceptional and under appreciated, like Thelonius Monk  was for a long time.  He has followed a rich tradition created by Mr. Neville Jules, we need to embrace and recognize their genius.

Thanks Edwin.

It was a great night of competition. Hugely enjoyable! The one sure winner was Pan, and Panorama.

Without the competition aspect, something would be missing ...

But equally, once the results are in, the judgment of the judges is final. Win or lose, no one should lose any sleep over it. Come stronger and harder next year, when ... may the best band win!

The judges and the people (People's Choice) got it right. All the bands were winners, however, there is one Champion band standing.

Phase II was my pick for the winning band ... no offence to All Stars or the judges, this was a very competitive Panorama.

Smooth's arrangement was light and airy, with a 3-note riff as the centre-piece that led off in different directions, kind of like a centre-forward dribbling down the football field.

Boogsie had a much harder job, working with 4- 6- and 8-note melodic elements, seeking to find a way forward, checker-board style, for a whole attack, to continue the football metaphor.

Boogsie gave us a fuller meal, IMHO.

My placings would have been as follows:

1. Phase II

2. Renegades

3. Invaders

4. All Stars

5. Silver Stars

6. Harmonites

7. Exodus

8. Redemption Sound

9. Fonclare

10. Angel Harps

11. Deltones

Relative to the judges, I am promoting Renegades two places to 2nd, and I'm promoting Invaders four places to 3rd place. I'm demoting All Stars and Silver Stars, but that's just my subjective opinion.

From another angle, I am agreeing with the judges as to the bottom four placements, and the top seven. So I wouldn't object to a 7-way tie for 1st, and a 4-way tie for 2nd place, LOL!!!

I'm glad to see Harmonites back firing on all cylinders. One of my enduring memories of carnival is jumping up with Harmonites that year they won Panorama back in '68 or '69, and going off into a bliss state.

Any of these bands, plus another dozen in the medium category, could represent this country with distinction, anywhere in the world. My hat's off to all of them.

Congratulations especially to Smooth and All Stars!
