That was great news! Good to hear real time accomplishments compared to the hocus pocus that's present in the Pan fraternity today, with all the unfounded claims by people who don't have the slightest idea of what's happening or what took place. I say that from a stand point of being one of the fortunate young men at the time that had the great experience of developing along with the Great Pioneers and Pan Men of our time when I was selected to become a member of the Famous Shell Invaders of Woodbrook. I can never forget the things that I learned nor the names of my brothers in Pan. Bass: Roy Rolok,The first Triple Cellos: Ellile Manette, Double Guitar: Ansel Joseph, Double Seconds: Errol l(Augmented) Zephryine, Clayton Green, Wiston(Moutabe) Phillip and last but not least Mr.Emanue l(Cobeau Jack) Riley and that was the original line up the the Stage side. We are the lucky ones who witnessed the innovations of the Modern Steel Pan and I feel so very blessed to have had those experiences that have continued to play such an important part in my life to the present day. STEVE let me add something to what you said. INVADERS was ELLIE MANNETTE and ELLIE WAS INVADERS. ELLIE IS THE MAIN MAN IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE INSTRUMENT WE CALL STEEL PAN. HE MADE IT A MUSICALY PLAYABLE INSTRUMENT FROM THE 2 NOTE DUDUP AND HE MADE IT THE 55 GALLON STEEL DRUM AND HE SUNK IT CONCAVE So when all the others try to muddy the waters with all sorts of claims and titles IT WAS ELLIE WHO LITERALLY GAVE US AN INDUSTRY OUT OF SHEER MUSICAL GENIUS. The contributions of the numerous SteelBands through the years were tremendous BUT for Invaders you can also add Innovative, Pioneers, Musical Excellence, Trend Setters, The Harps, and many more. One thing for sure they were the Band that all others wanted to emulate. I do not know if this Band ever got any recognition like the Annual Awards that are given to those whose contributions were Nation Building but if not then it's time that this is done. Thanks.
There was a barber shop on mcdonald street in woodbrook, where the inner circle of invaders band choose to hang out.This was my first look at these young men,was very fortunate as a boy the rest is history. INVADERS 4EVER.
My first venture into pan-playing was with this great band in 1968. The panorama tune was Sandra by the Mighty Sparrow. i did not stay for any length of time as i attended St. Mary's College and lived in Barataria. So it never worked out at the time. But i have never forgotten bassplayer" Cattle" for his patience in teaching me the 5-bass and his words of inspiration when i told him i had to stop. Ever since 1968, Invaders has forever remained with a song in my heart. i recall their many practice sessions and their smooth jouvert jumpups every year on the Tragarete Road stretch. Thanks Invaders for lessons learnt in pan.
It will be nice to see a band that can bring back that 1960s' sound and also play music from back then just to let people see how it was
Real sweet the sound. A unique combination of raw steel and raw talent. Those were the days.
