From an earlier time, Invaders Steel Orchestra performs their classic arrangement of the Rodgers and Hart show tune, "With a song in my Heart".From their cd "An Enchanted Evening".Unfortunately, this is not the original that featured the legendary Emmanuel "Cobo Jack" Riley...

  • Hi Glenroy, I'm not impressed with this update. I do have the original along with others of the era.The listing of selections was not readable, could you say if Let's dance and face the music is on the CD?

  • How do I get the CD containing "With A Song In My Heart". Invaders are my favourite band - blend, arrangements, pan sound, integration of all elements.

    Cheers, Richard Craig

  • What a tune! What an arrangement! Most people remember the soloing of Cobojack (the master panist) when speaking of this record, but the arrangement, the 'vibe' the entire structure of the piece is outstanding.

It is one of the great pan tunes of that era, in fact, of all time!

I live in Jamaica and on T&Ts 50th anniversary of independence, there was a function put on by the High Commissioner in a ballroo in Kingston: Trini food, etc and the feature, an Invaders  'stage  side' (is it still called that?)  During the evening, I thoroughly enjoyed their playing of some old Invaders  hits. The manager, in conversation, challenged me that I would not remember the next tune they would play, and they started to play "With a Song in My Heart'!

Imagine his surprise when this old guy, started to sing along, 'mouth-panning' the entire arrangement, as I 'conducted' the band! A great time was had.

Little did he know I was a oletime Invaders fan, who still had a copy of the original arrangement on vinyl-- and had transferred it to CD.

  • Hey Glenroy......I finally got around to posting something on your site, but I can assure that I have been following you all the time. Thanks for all the wonderful stuff you have been supplying. I am one of the older guys and I was drawn to this recording because I have an album entitled, " Sticks and Fingers" featuring Boogsie and Pelham (don't know if you know it) and this tune is one of the tracks where Boogsie does a nice modern job as usual. Thanks again man.
  • Mr Joseph,I appreciate you selection of music, but do you have (Back In My Arms by Shell Invaders)

I have the Originals of With A Song In My Heart, and a lot more.

    But good selection.David

  • OK everyone, I got it. These are not the recordings fron the 1950's.

We do the best we can. I f anybody can come up with the originals, pleaase, please post them.

If you need help to post, let me know, and I'll be glad to help you.

    Otherwise, just enjoy the music!

  • This is nice but it is not the original recording.  Jack was more into tenor back in the day (Liebestraum, Melody in F, Outcast, etc).
  • I may be wrong, but based on my childhood recollection when watching my father, and another relative, Clayton Green etc., beating Pan with Invaders, I am almost certain Cobo Jack was more into second pans/double seconds back in the day
  • Well-balanced!This Great Orchestra is! One of my Favorite, across the years......
