Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - It could be deemed “Carnival in June” as this year’s edition of WeBeat St. James Live comes to an end on Saturday (June 10).

From early as 4:00 am, invited Jouvert Bands will start the revelry along the Western Main Road, from the St. James Amphitheatre. Then later in the evening, the Steelband and Traditional Mas Street Parade gets under way from 7:00 pm til 2:00 am.

Participating steelbands, the majority of which hail from the West, include PCS Nitrogen Silver Stars, St. James Tripolians, Phase II Pan Groove in association with HADCO, Woodbrook Playboyz, CAL Invaders, Scrunters Pan Groove, Harvard Harps, Musical Gems, Newtown Playboys and Brimblers. Both Massy Trinidad All Stars and bpRenegades Steel Orchestras have been invited to participate.

Others “on the road” are Old Tech Steel Orchestra, Blue Diamonds, Pan Jammers and D’ Tunapuna Vibrations. La Creole Pan Groove, the lone stationary band, will set up in front of the St, James Park & Amphitheatre where they will entertain the public pre-parade.

This aspect of the Festival which attracts thousands to “the city that never sleeps” is made possible with funding from the Ministry of Community Development, Culture & The Arts. Adding to the gaiety will the Traditional Mas characters sponsored by the National Carnival Bands Association. In addition, community steelband, St. James Tripolians, will be, “bringing their Fancy Sailors” led by Keith Simpson.

While the format is pan-on-the move, participating bands will stop in front of the St. James Amphitheatre & Park, where they will perform a tune of choice before heading east along the Western Main Road. Guests and the Media will take in the action from that vantage point.

WeBeat St. James Live17 was is in tribute to founding member and First President Earl Crosby who passed away last August.

WeBeat St.James Live is produced by the St. James Community Improvement Committee under the stewardship of Cecil Tomkin, Ag. President and supported by the Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of Social Development and Family Services, MHL, RBC, National Lotteries Control Board, Exim Bank, Kenneth Atwell Creations, among many others.

Woo Ling’s Supermarket, third generation business spanning over 80 years, was selected as this year’s honoree for their service to the community.
