More Steel Pans For Tobago Schools

Tobago News

Tobago, W.I. - Two Tobago schools will be receiving a donation of more steel pans tomorrow from the Tobago Multi-Cultural Unit.

Rennison ‘Pecky’ Quashie, who heads the unit, told Tobago News that Mt Gomery Primary School and the Plymouth Anglican School will be presented with 14 pieces of steel pan instruments including a drum set and pair of congas. The Unit, which is part of the Division of Education, has been distributing steel pan instruments to schools across the island as part of its policy of exploring the steelband culture. It has also employed a number of steel pan tuners to produce the steel pans, and has organised for steel pan music arrangers to work in a number of schools. This has resulted in a number of young panists graduating from these courses.
