For a while it was Boogsie and Smooth ruling the PANORAMA ROOST with Duvonne waiting in the wings to take over the show. Then out of the blue came Amrit and Zanda and now we are adding Mia Gormandy to the mix. Six top arrangers vying for the Panorama Title in 2017 in what should be a wide open race. From my jaundiced view of the world, I am pretty sure that Mia Gormandy is GUARANTEED at least a THIRD PLACE FINISH with BIRDSONG. As Richard Pryor said: "That's the politics, baby."
So ah lot ah BIG NAME arrangers will end up being out of the TOP THREE SPOTS. Ah like LIAM TEAGUE but they will never put him in the TOP THREE. Maybe he should stay in OHIO and devote all that PANORAMA TIME to composing some good music and recording some GLOBALLY READY PAN MUSIC. Ah still waiting for this new crop of formally trained PAN MUSICIANS to compose ONE PIECE of music that touches my soul. Until that time I have to go back and listen to "WE KINDA MUSIC" for the 1000th time while I wait!!!

Putting all politics aside, with all due respect for her academic credentials, she has not paid her dues. Lets not forget those who are in the trenches making in-roads, like Rudder would say "I'm not going to name names, might make the others look small".

Claudie 2017 will be a very interesting year for Trinidad Panorama. Zanda and Amrit will bring the best out of Boogsie. The young Americans with Skiffle and Zanda with Desperadoes are bringing a fresh and modern perspective. They are making musical choices that the young people of the world can relate to. They are the only ones truly investing in the future of Panorama and themselves.
As for Liam, as talented as he is, he seems unable to bridge the world of bacchanal and music academics. He should study Bradley. Not copy, but study how Bradley was able to use Trinidad folk music and traditions to his advantage while dropping music science in his arrangements.
