A Salsa Mass for Christmas??
That's right folks!
The Lydians Steel Orchestra along with The Lydian Singers will perform the 2013 composed MISSA SALSERA (Salsa Mass) to the rhythms of the Malick Folk Drummers and conventional orchestra instruments!
The mass will be performed at The Lydians annual Christmas concert entitled, A Magic Christmas Voyage from 11th - 14th December at the Queen's Hall Auditorium in St. Ann's.
The Missa Salsera is a Latin Mass setting for use in the Roman Catholic Church and the definitive work of the style called salsa santísima, a pure fusion of the classical and operatic tradition with classic and contemporary salsa." The Composer is El Padre Salsero, Fr Anthony Rosado, priest, pianist, singer and dancer who will be visiting Trinidad and Tobago in time for the concert!
The Lydians will perform an excerpt of four movements of the Missa Salsera mass accompanied by Lindy-Ann Bodden-Ricth, Myrtle Cumberbatch and Latin Jazz pianist Chantal Esdelle of Moyenne!
This year, the Lydian Singers take you on A Magic Christmas Voyage around the world to celebrate the universal story of joy and hope, peace and goodwill in a wide range of cultural traditions....
The story will be told through an Arabic chant, a First People’s carol, Betelehemu in Yoruba, excerpts from the Argentinian Navidad Nuestra and a Puerto Rican Mass; a Marian segment, as well as Chinese, French, German and Brazilian carols.....
Expect a stage set that highlights iconic aspects of the birth of Christ including richly costumed Magi.....
