Ironic, the opposition to the G Pan. Ironic because some pan players need to move their mind from the arbitrary nature of the layout of some of the pans (like the double tenor) to the logic of 2 pans having whole tone scale, 3 pan having diminished chords, 4 pans having augmented chords and 6 bases having to of the 12 notes (with an octave). Then, they have to make another logical jump to diving the cycle of 5/4 into 3 for the 3 G-pan. The only thing that will save them mentally, is when they try to divide the cycle of 5/4 into two for a 2 pan, they will smile at the presence of a semitone in each of the pan and praise the step-up they have made from arbitrary layout to the logic of music, which a circular instrument like the pan must celebrate.
