In 1957 I first played the Steel Drums with Starlift Steel Band and the arranger was Philo James, whom I understands lives in Canada and is retired....
I then continued playing for many years with my good old friend Ray Holman with Starlift and also Pandemonium Steel Band....
Interesting story, during the sixties I actually had the opportunity to show Boogsie Sharpe the Panorama tunes when he played for Starlift as a young man and was arranged by Ray Holman....
Boogie was amazing at that early stage as he would miss practice for a couple of nights and I would show him the notes which he would learn in a matter of seconds....
He then would continue to learn the song on all the different pans....So on Jouvert morning he would be going up tragerete Road playing a four base, a second pad, double guitar ect....
I still play a double Tenor at my home and continue to enjoy the Panorama competition at Carnival time....
I will be in T&T for Carnival 2014...
With Regards,
David.
